Is The Art Of Overtaking Lost Forever?

Contributor: Courtroom Reporter & Crime Analyst: James Parker DRS, it is a controversial device which has divided opinion to the very core. Since its introduction in 2011, the FIA have constantly tinkered with the gimmick to ensure it creates the correct blend of opportunity, without detracting away from the skill of achieving a successful overtake. It begs … Read more

China GP 2013: Off Track post race review

Thankfully after the past couple of weeks, the ‘off the track’ post race report I write will be considerably shorter than some of my recent reviews. Firstly, lets clear up the matter of 8 drivers under investigation for use of DRS under yellow flag conditions. All 8 escape sanction and the stewards note the following. … Read more

‘Farcical FIA’ and ‘Steady Stewarding’

No anti Melbourne sentiment here Unlike others in the media, I am not down on the trip that the Formula 1 fraternity  makes to begin the season in Australia. If Formula 1 wishes to claim it is the only truly global sport – as claimed by team principals in the FIA press conference – then … Read more

A busy time in Paris

not only did we get the official calendar for 2013 from  the FIA Council yesterday, but they offered up a draft calendar for the new 2014 FIA Formula E Championship – to be run in city centres across the world.

10 races are targeted with 10 teams and 2 drivers with 2 cars each. There will be 2 compulsory pit stops per driver, with him jumping out of one car and into the next. One of the cars must be charged during the 45 minute race.

F1 Forensics: Slats and Vortex Generators

F1 Forensics is brought to thejudge13 readers in partnership with SomersF1, Like most of us, Matthew Somerfield has a day job and his is being the manager of a car & van rental company in the Isle of Wight.

His passion is to try and bring us non-techies closer to F1 by bridging the gap between the full blown engineering publications and the simplicity of much that is provided by TV.

Ask Somers anything you want in the comments section. He’s part of the crew now and hang’s out here regularly.

And now over to Somers…

Not big on testing times, but Jenson on the hard tyre looks good. Sutil may be a little disappointing but its been a while and Caterham bottom of the pile again. TJ13 believes and stated for some time Marussia will overtake Caterham in 2013 and those colours are still nailed to the mast.

Tony F is AWOL and has apparently just spent £70m on 2 footballers for QPR (acquisition fee and wages over the life of their contracts). His tweets are mostly Air Asia and QPR related too.

Red Bull

I don’t know what this tells us about the team but Red Bull tweeted today, “Most obvious sign of changeover from Seb to Mark? Car’s parked on other side of the garage today… “.

Grosjean attitude win at all costs: Romain Grosjean thinks he is ready to take a more mature approach to Formula One. He did of course have an abortive start to his career at the scandal ridden Renault in 2009, the young Frenchman gained a second chance with Lotus in 2012.

He clearly proved himself to be a very quick driver with 3 podiums by the middle of 2012, but as we know became the focus for media vilification following the dramatic events at the start of the Belgian GP – for which he received a race ban for Monza.
