Mandate
At TJ13, we are committed to upholding high ethical and editorial standards. In the current media landscape, we believe that preserving humanity in journalism and taking a responsible and conscientious approach to ensure that our work does not cause harm is more important than ever.
Accountability
If we make a mistake, we will correct it and express our regret where appropriate. We listen to the concerns of our audience and provide remedies when we have acted unfairly.
Author biography
All of our articles will contain a clear biography stating the author’s name and providing a link to their bio page. We will also publicly display our authors’ social profiles, contact details and accreditation where possible.
Diversity
At TJ13, we are committed to representing the millions of users who consume our content every month, regardless of their background or how they identify. We strive to be an inclusive employer and a responsible publisher.
Coverage Principles
TJ13’s writers do not act, either formally or informally, on behalf of any special interests, whether they are political, corporate, or cultural. Editors should be made aware of any conflicts of interest and act accordingly.
TJ13’s writing team strives to take an impartial stance when reporting on issues, aiming to deliver content in an unbiased and transparent manner at all times, unless he article is a clearly stated ‘op-ed’ opinion piece.
Corrections
TJ13 is committed to promptly correcting mistakes. We respond quickly to feedback from readers and take concerns seriously.
Our editorial and management teams ensure that any errors are swiftly identified and rectified. In addition to taking editorial care prior to publication, our editorial team routinely audits articles to check for possible factual inaccuracies.
If you feel that we have fallen below our own standards with regard to the factual accuracy of our content, we will endeavour to make the necessary corrections. Please contact us with any concerns about the accuracy of our reporting.
Plagiarism
TJ13 has a zero-tolerance policy on plagiarism. Any writer found to have used the work of others without permission or accreditation will face immediate disciplinary action, and steps will be taken to rectify the situation.
Fact-checking
TJ13 takes pride in its editorial standards and has a dedicated editorial team whose main job is to make sure that everything that is published is accurate. To uphold this commitment, TJ13 sets clear expectations for its writers.
Writers must credit and link to all sources used in their reporting. They are encouraged to question the validity of these sources, and to handle information with particular care when covering sensitive or potentially controversial subjects. TJ13 also provides guidance on which sources are considered credible and which are not, helping writers to navigate complex information landscapes.
F1 fan contributors are expected to avoid covering topics about which they do not feel sufficiently knowledgeable, and they must clearly distinguish between fact, opinion and conjecture in their work. Senior editors routinely review articles and verify any questionable claims.
If TJ13 publishes inaccurate or misleading information, it will act swiftly to correct the record following any confirmed feedback.
AI Tools
AI remains unreliable when generating content for publication on the internet. No articles are published on TJ13 using AI tools to generate content, and all articles require full human oversight during the drafting phase of TJ13’s publishing workflow. Currently, the only AI tools employed by TJ13 are for grammatical and spell checking, and are used under full human supervision at all times.
Feedback
TJ13 believes that news organisations have a moral duty to engage with the public on values and pressing issues of the time. In return, organisations such as ours can benefit greatly.
We welcome all feedback and encourage active dialogue with our writers, editors, and management team. We are committed to engaging with our audience and taking action based on their feedback, complaints and suggestions.
TJ13 will always try to answer questions that a story raises, develop a story or article further using feedback from our readership, identify related questions or issues that our audience is discussing or concerned about, and uncover new and diverse sources and references.
All TJ13 readers are free to connect with us via the Contact Us page on our website, our various social channels, or the author contact details/social channels provided on our Authors page.
Ethical policy
TJ13 adheres to the five core principles of ethical journalism outlined by the Ethical Journalism Network.
- Truth and accuracy:
Although we cannot guarantee ‘truth’, we always endeavour to get our facts right and strive for accuracy. We should acknowledge when we cannot corroborate information.
- Independence:
Our writers do not act, either formally or informally, on behalf of any special interests, whether they are political, corporate, or cultural. Editors should be made aware of any conflicts of interest and act accordingly.
- Fairness and impartiality:
In cases apart from clearly stated opinion pieces, articles should be balanced and provide context.
- Humanity:
Journalists should avoid causing harm. We should be aware of the impact our words can have on others’ lives. We should take special care when reporting on sensitive issues or topics that may cause upset. If we feel that an article could cause pain to others, we will not write it.
- Accountability:
When we make mistakes, TJ13 will correct them and express sincere regret where appropriate. We listen to the concerns of our audience and provide remedies when we have been unfair. Please refer to our corrections policy below for further details.
TJ13 will not violate individuals’ right to privacy. Furthermore, we endeavour to adhere to the principles set out in the Code of Ethics of the Society of Professional Journalists and the Editors’ Code of Practice of IPSO.
