Judges Chambers: Sergio ‘the poignant’, Big Time Boxing and F1 competitors of Latin descent.

Quick mention: A gentle nudge to read (if you haven’t in the past week) the newly revised ‘Project’ page on TJ13 and the ‘Judicial Board’ page under the ‘About’. Any help is gratefully accepted even for 1 hour a week. By the way we hit 150,000 visits last night since

Musings: Formula 1 at times appears to me like Big Time boxing. Whoaah – hold those horses and that indecent thought… Bernie and Jean in boots, shorts and a vest…gloves held high…duking it out…Damn – where’s a cartoonist when you need one.

Anyway, I was thinking more about the boxing drama that is the weigh in. This is a strange ritual where the competitors strip off their clothes and are left with merely a fig leaf for modesty. They stand on some scales in front of scores of photographic lenses and flashbulbs operated by strange unknown people… and then they face each other – toe to toe – with curled lips, dark stares and snarls of aggression.

Well we truly are living in historic times. 600 years or so since the resignation of the last Holy Father and it may be 600 more before Bernie decides to relinquish his throne too. I was amused by the fact that His Holiness chose to announce his resignation in Latin and there was only 1 reporter there who knew what he was saying and had the hugest exclusive scoop. So kids – lessons learned. Get your head down with Latin homework.

I have noticed further similarities between the Pope and his F1 peer – Mr. E; maybe the reason we seem to hear gobbledygook when our F1’s supremo makes his pronouncements is because he too is speaking in a nigh on extinct ancient language.

Pressing on to more important matters. First up, a big thanks to those of you recently contributing to thejudge13. Take a couple of minutes to read ‘the project’ page, I’ve updated it today.

Back in home Chambers. It’s 01:40 and I’ve just completed the following. News round up and comment back tomorrow.

I mentioned in one of my previous posts from Jerez the TJ13 vision. However, seeing as we have not yet consigned this to parchment, framed upon my wall, forgive me if the wording varies. The essential element of the vision is, ‘bringing fans closer to F1 by pushing social media boundaries’.

I know that many of you simply visit this blog via your web browser and have no interest in face book, linked in, twitter et al – and that is fine by me.

However, I have been on a technological and experiential journey over the past year and it has not been intentional in any way. My technological advances in social media have been typified by the need to do something fast – and so I learn to do it myself or with some quick help with the tools available.

Welcome to the all new ‘Judge’s Chambers’ section. It’s strange to start this in temporary accommodation, but no matter. The Chambers back home are nearly ready, modestly decorated and furnished I might add – no pomp and circumstance with thejudge13.

So good morning all. Having managed a solid 6 ½ hours sleep, my body clock is screaming for me to get up, but Mrs J will be sleeping yet for some time. So I have procured my favourite table in the restaurant for breakfast and the waiter has just brought some fabulously aromatic ground coffee and freshly squeezed oranges, so let’s begin.

Testing changed when the FIA banned unlimited testing. Prior to this, you could rock up to Silverstone most Wednesdays (and other circuits) and see F1 cars on track trying out the latest developments.

Cost concerns changed all this and testing was limited (and without going into the minutia of the regulations) to 12-15 days pre-season with a few additional limited filming and straight line aero testing days  allowed over and above this.

According to a team principal I was chatting to, the teams used to pay the circuits around 100,000 euros for each testing day. The testing venues decided to try to make a few extra bucks and began charging 5-10 euro’s a day entrance fee for fans to come and watch.

Jerez testing summary: Lewis a changed man, Mercedes’ troubles may be bigger than 1st thought, Lauda and Ross have an amicable dinner, Di Resta very upset with steering

Judges chambers is a new section on TJ13. Here I will release my musings, sift debatable evidence and give judgements on what are and what are not reasonable assumptions for current ‘goings on’ in F1.

Having battled with no WIFI and hardly any 3G all day, I am finally ensconced in guest chambers where I can communicate, even though the speed of access reminds me of  early forms of internet ‘dial up’ access.

Mercedes and Hamilton

Testing day 1 and what do we know. Let’s start with Lewis. Testing has previously appeared somewhat of a chore to Mr. Hamilton who has preferred to play golf on his non-driving days and compare notes with another keen golfer – Heikki.

Judge’s Chambers: Before the big RR launch, news is sparse so rather than clutter up a post with loads of TJ13 site matters, let’s have a coffee, croissant and chat while we wait on Milton Keynes

Jerez: Sorry to rub it in AGAIN. but I will be away in Jerez next week So no news and comment from me I’m afraid. I will try to put another page up (keep your eye on menu’s at the top) probably called judge’s chambers – and when I get some 3G/WIFI I’ll pop up the odd comment/observation.
