Former Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali’s potential return to Maranello seems to be gaining some momentum.
The current boss of Lamborghini had previously managed the Scuderia from 2007 to 2014 and has some decent support by the current management.
Rumours broke in the news last week linking the former team boss back to Maranello, and this weekend several Italian publications such as Autosprint, Corriere della Sera and La Repubblica have started to claim that there is ‘an imminent return’ of the current Lamborghini managing director to Ferrari.
Should that occur, Domenicali would be backed by Louis Camilleri, the current head of Ferrari who stood in after the unexpected demise of the former Fiat Chrysler head and Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne.
Further, it is known that Domenicali has the upmost support of John Elkann, the president of Fiat-Chrysler who currently owns Ferrari.
It is said that Domenicali is to support the new team boss of Ferrari – former technical director Mattia Binotto, who has taken over from Maurizio Arrivabene.
It’s clear that Binotto has worked magic on the technical side of Ferrari, increasing the car’s performance, closing the gap to Mercedes, and even surpassing the German squad in the early half of 2018. The same publications are also continuing on with the claims that recently ousted boss Maurizio Arrivabene could perhaps head over to the Ferrari engined Sauber team for 2019.
Should the move occur, it is said that Arrivabene wouldn’t take over from current team boss Frederic Vasseur, but act as a liason between Sauber and principle sponsor Alfa Romeo. Alfa are also part of the Fiat Chrysler group, so such a move could be possible, albeit unlikely.

I’m surprised you haven’t put this together with the quote with Stefano gave a few weeks ago saying Alonso could drive for Ferrari next year.
Then this would be an amazing story. Investigate a little further and this site might have a story that returns it to its former glory.

Considering that Domenicali played a significant part in the signing of Vettel, I’d be surprised if he was to orchestrate that.
