Lewis Hamilton reacts as Arsenal win first Premier League title in 22 years

Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton celebrated a deeply personal sporting moment after Arsenal F.C. secured their first Premier League title in 22 years.

The British driver, who has supported the north London club all his life, took to social media to react after Mikel Arteta’s team were officially crowned champions following Manchester City’s draw against Bournemouth.

This confirmed Arsenal as champions before the final day of the Premier League season, bringing an end to their 22-year wait for a title win since the famous 2003/04 “Invincibles” campaign led by Thierry Henry. Hamilton quickly shared the club’s celebrations on Instagram Stories and X, posting the message “COYG” — short for “Come On You Gunners”.

Arsenal were crowned champions after Manchester City stumbled

On Tuesday evening, the squad gathered at the Sobha Realty Training Centre to watch Manchester City’s clash with Bournemouth. Pep Guardiola’s team failed to win on the south coast, which mathematically handed the title to Arsenal with one match of the season still to play.

This victory marks Arsenal’s first English league championship since Arsène Wenger’s legendary unbeaten side lifted the trophy over 20 years ago. This triumph is the culmination of a lengthy rebuilding process under manager Mikel Arteta, restoring Arsenal to the pinnacle of English football after years of near misses and rebuilding phases.

For Hamilton, the title carries additional emotional significance. The Ferrari driver has publicly declared his support for Arsenal and his desire to see the club return to the top of English football for years.

Hamilton’s connection with Arsenal dates back to his childhood

His support for Arsenal dates back to his childhood. Throughout his career, the Formula 1 star has repeatedly referenced the club and has previously participated in charity football matches alongside Arsenal legends, including Thierry Henry, Ray Parlour, and Sol Campbell.

Speaking at one of these events in 2015, Hamilton explained just how important the club has been to him throughout his life.

“Surprisingly, I’m super excited for today. It’s crazy because I’ve been an Arsenal fan since I was five, so to be here… It’s been about 15 years since I last played. It could be catastrophic for me, but I’m just going to pass the ball whenever it comes to me. I’m just going to clear it. Whether I kick it or not, it’s a great day, you know?”

He continued: “I’m grateful that these true legends of the sport came and let us be part of the team I’ve supported for so many years. It was great.”

Hamilton’s visible reaction to Arsenal’s success quickly attracted attention online, with fans noting that the seven-time world champion had finally witnessed another league triumph after waiting more than two decades.

Ferrari’s struggles contrast with Arsenal’s success

While Arsenal are celebrating domestic success, Hamilton’s own sporting situation remains far more complicated. The British driver joined Scuderia Ferrari for the 2026 Formula 1 season, hoping to add an eighth world championship to his record. However, Ferrari have endured a difficult campaign so far.

Despite the challenges on the track, Arsenal’s title win has provided Hamilton with a rare sporting high away from Formula 1. Attention will now turn to the UEFA Champions League final on 30 May, where Arsenal will face Paris Saint-Germain F.C., with the opportunity to complete a historic double.

For Hamilton, the Premier League title ends his 22-year wait as an Arsenal supporter and potentially signals the start of a new era for the club he has supported since childhood.
