‘Special clauses’ – Details of Lewis Hamilton’s Ferrari contract leaked online

The Formula One world is abuzz with the bombshell news that seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton will leave Mercedes to join the ranks of Ferrari from 2025. This pivotal move not only marks the end of an era at Mercedes, where Hamilton has enjoyed the bulk of his career success, but also heralds a new chapter with Ferrari, a team synonymous with racing heritage and ambition.

Detailed reports from the European media have begun to unravel the details of Hamilton’s contract with Ferrari, shedding light on the complexities and strategic nuances of this major transition.

Unpacking the deal

Hamilton’s move to Ferrari is underpinned by a lucrative multi-year contract, with European outlets reporting an annual salary of $80 million, supplemented by an additional $20 million in bonuses earmarked for Hamilton’s philanthropic foundation. This agreement not only demonstrates Ferrari’s willingness to invest heavily in Hamilton’s on-track prowess, but also reflects a shared commitment to social responsibility off the track.

With total compensation potentially reaching $100 million per year when sponsorship, image rights and other bonuses are included, Hamilton’s deal with Ferrari places him among the highest earners in the sport, on a par with contemporary rival Max Verstappen.

Comparative insights

To put Hamilton’s Ferrari deal into context, it’s instructive to compare it to his previous arrangement with Mercedes. According to Forbes’ 2023 report, Hamilton’s Mercedes salary was around $55 million, excluding bonuses – a figure that already placed him at the top of the F1 earnings hierarchy. The move to Ferrari not only enhances Hamilton’s financial package, but also signals a significant investment by Ferrari in its quest to return to the forefront of F1 competitiveness.

The strategic and personal dimensions

Speculation about the “secret reasons” behind Hamilton’s move to Ferrari points to several intriguing factors, including the possibility of a reunion with team principal Fred Vasseur. The prospect of a “last dance” with Vasseur, who played a pivotal role in Hamilton’s very early career, adds a narrative richness to the move, suggesting a mix of professional strategy and personal connection in Hamilton’s decision-making process.

F1 journalist Will Buxton wrote on social media: “There would be something pretty lovely about Lewis linking back up with Fred at Ferrari. He was responsible for creating the potency of the young sensation who shocked the establishment 20 years ago. One last dance to make history together would be poetic and really very special.”

Furthermore, Hamilton’s relationship with Ferrari president John Elkann, characterised by mutual respect and a shared vision, has been highlighted as a key element in facilitating this transition. Elkann’s ambition to secure Hamilton – a move that has been years in the making – underlines a strategic coup for Ferrari, which aims to use Hamilton’s star power and skill to enhance the team’s status and performance.

  1. sadly im torn between 2 rifts on all this. being a Williams and Mclaren fan (Pref with Honda over mercs) and being a Leclerc fan. I’m am hoping the red horses go backward, Leaving Leclerc open to using the back door escape. and Leave Hamilton in the dust.

Sorry to all the Hamilton fans but i’m not a hamilton. who can you believe? A driver that sacks his father after wining his first championship, the man that worked 2 jobs to get him where he needs? or the man that refuse to to abide by regulations on wearing body jewelry that are in place as a safe guard should and emergency arise where valuable seconds mean something and to claim it is a health hazard to remove them, and then also to throw in that it is in his cultural heritage, still nobody can tell me what culture? and then more recently (and i have skip a lot in-between) to hold of on agreeing to a new contract with Toto and Mercedes pushing it out to the summer break (after saying it will take 5 min to sort out at the beginning of the season) he already knew he would be moving to another team for better hopes as the mercs got it all wrong to start with.

Sorry Toto your man, the guys you said you trust, a man that is a colleague and the very man you call a friend! (who would need enemies then)

well now that he is flying the coup I have the memories of alot of fans saying that Vettel cant overtake or doesn’t need to as he has the quickest car, Well we will see how Hamilton is, though I think we have a tell tail sign already with Russel giving him a run for his money already.
