While many imagine Sebastian Vettel joining Mercedes Formula 1 team in 2021, Ferrari boss Mattia Binotto spoke of the possibility.
Ferrari has already decided on the 2021 season driver line up. After extending Charles Leclerc’s contract, the Scuderia has decided not to continue the partnership with Sebastian Vettel.
The German will, therefore, leave the Italian team at the end of the season, where he will be replaced by Carlos Sainz Jr. After Red Bull and Ferrari, the four-time world champion is expected to join a new team, or possibly retire from F1.
Certainly, the fans and pundits are relishing the prospect of Vettel joining Mercedes and becoming team mate to Lewis Hamilton, and Toto Wolff hasn’t dismissed this possibility at all saying that he “wouldn’t say no to Sebastian” and that he’s a “remarkable driver” READ MORE ON HIS RECENT COMMENTS HERE.
Ferrari team boss Binotto agrees with Wolff on the matter despite the fact that by doing so Vettel would be joining their main opposition.
“If, as rumour has it, Seb left for Mercedes, I would be delighted, really delighted” says Binotto during an interview with L’Equipe, the French newspaper.
Perhaps a rather damning statement on Vettel maybe?
