Esteban Ocon could remain in Formula 1 beyond the 2026 season despite his increasingly uncertain relationship with Haas, with reports linking the Frenchman to a potential reserve driver position at Aston Martin for 2027.
According to Autosport, Aston Martin are emerging as a possible destination for the 30-year-old, who is understood to be keen to remain involved in Formula 1 after his departure from Haas.
The speculation comes after a turbulent Mexican Grand Prix weekend, during which Ocon’s relationship with his current team deteriorated further. His future at Haas has become increasingly uncertain following an abrupt dismissal, although the circumstances surrounding his exit have yet to be fully clarified.
If the Aston Martin opportunity materialises, it could offer Ocon a route to remain in the paddock while keeping open the possibility of a future return to a full-time race seat.
Ocon’s Haas relationship reaches breaking point
Relations between Ocon and Haas have reportedly been deteriorating for several weeks.
The Frenchman has repeatedly expressed dissatisfaction with the team’s decision to allow his contract to expire at the end of the 2026 campaign. He has also made clear that he has been exploring alternative opportunities for next season.
The situation escalated during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend, with the relationship between driver and team apparently reaching a breaking point.
Both sides are understood to have wanted a more amicable conclusion to their partnership. However, the latest developments have raised questions about whether Ocon will continue racing for Haas during the remaining rounds of the season.
Aston Martin emerge as potential destination
According to Autosport, Aston Martin could offer Ocon an opportunity to remain in Formula 1 as a reserve driver in 2027.
The speculation has gathered momentum on social media, where several posts have circulated showing the Frenchman wearing Aston Martin colours.
However, there has been no official confirmation from Aston Martin or Ocon that an agreement has been reached.
A reserve position would represent a different challenge for the experienced driver, who has competed in Formula 1 since 2016 and previously raced for Force India, Renault, Alpine and Haas.
It would nevertheless keep him connected to the sport and potentially provide an alternative route back into a full-time cockpit should circumstances change.
Aston Martin already have two reserve drivers
An Ocon arrival would also raise questions about Aston Martin’s existing reserve-driver arrangements.
Jak Crawford and Stoffel Vandoorne are currently contracted to the Silverstone-based team in reserve roles. Whether both would remain in those positions if Ocon joined is unclear.
Ocon’s experience could make him an attractive addition, particularly as Aston Martin continue developing their longer-term driver strategy.
The Frenchman has accumulated considerable experience across several teams and has competed against some of the leading drivers on the current grid. That knowledge could be valuable when supporting the race team and providing feedback during development work.
However, a reserve position would not guarantee Ocon a route back into a race seat. He would need to remain ready for an opportunity while potentially spending an entire season away from competitive racing.
Ocon’s reputation faces another challenge
Ocon’s difficult final months at Haas have also come against the backdrop of questions about his reputation within the paddock.
His relationships with former team-mates have occasionally attracted attention, while his battle against Oliver Bearman during the 2026 season has proved particularly challenging.
The Frenchman has frequently found himself on the losing side of their internal competition, adding to the pressure surrounding his position at Haas.
Nevertheless, his experience and previous performances mean he could still appeal to teams looking for an established Formula 1 driver.
For now, Aston Martin remain a reported possibility rather than a confirmed destination. Neither the team nor Ocon has publicly announced an agreement.
The next few weeks could therefore prove important in determining whether the Frenchman has a future on the Formula 1 grid in 2027, even if that future initially involves a reserve role rather than a race seat.
The key distinction is that Ocon may have found a way to stay in Formula 1, but there is currently no confirmation that Aston Martin have signed him.

He most certainly will be left without a full-time drive & Aston Martin is certainly an option for a test/reserve role.
I’ve also thought about Ferrari & Audi as viable options for this.
Stoffel Vandoorne is more so a test driver, while Jak Crawford is the actualy reserve driver & teams typically have two drivers with this specific title at a time; hence, having both Crawford & Ocon as reserve drivers would be all okay.
