Red Bull confirms Isack Hadjar for 2027 alongside Max Verstappen as team backs young Frenchman – Red Bull has confirmed that Isack Hadjar will remain alongside Max Verstappen for the 2027 Formula 1 season, extending the Frenchman’s contract after an impressive first campaign with the senior team.
The announcement comes just days before Hadjar’s expected return from a wrist injury at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Red Bull settles 2027 driver line-up
Red Bull announced on Wednesday that Hadjar has signed an extension, completing its driver line-up for 2027.
The team had already secured Verstappen’s future through the end of 2030, meaning Red Bull has now committed to the same pairing for another season.
The length and financial terms of Hadjar’s new agreement have not been disclosed.
Laurent Mekies, Red Bull’s CEO and Team Principal, said the decision was straightforward after seeing how quickly the 21-year-old had adapted to the team.
“We’re very excited to continue our journey with Isack. Since joining us at the start of the year, he has been superb on and off track, especially considering this is only his second Formula 1 season, which made extending his contract an easy decision.”
Mekies also highlighted Hadjar’s contribution away from the circuit, saying the driver had immersed himself in the team and worked closely with his engineers on developing the car.
Hadjar has impressed alongside Verstappen
Hadjar was promoted to Red Bull for 2026 after completing his rookie season with Racing Bulls in 2025.
His second F1 campaign has produced a strong run of results. Before his injury, he recorded seven consecutive top-six finishes, including a podium at the Monaco Grand Prix, while establishing himself in the upper half of the Drivers’ Championship.
That consistency has helped Hadjar overcome the difficult challenge of stepping into Red Bull’s second seat alongside Verstappen.
Max Verstappen himself welcomed the decision, saying that retaining Hadjar “made perfect sense” and that continuing together would be beneficial for the team.
Contract announcement comes before Baku return
Hadjar’s new deal arrives at the same time as his return to racing.
The Frenchman has missed the last three Grands Prix after suffering a small wrist fracture during training. Liam Lawson stepped in at Red Bull during his absence before returning to Racing Bulls for the Azerbaijan weekend.
Hadjar has completed rehabilitation and is set to return in Baku, although he acknowledged that the wrist will remain painful for some time.
“I had a small fracture on the outside of the wrist. It’s just quite a long process. I didn’t need any surgery, so it’s all natural and it takes some time.”
He added that a simulator test had gone well and gave him confidence that the wrist would withstand the demands of returning to the cockpit.
Hadjar welcomes Red Bull commitment
For Hadjar, the extension provides confirmation that Red Bull sees him as part of its longer-term plans.
“I am really excited to continue with Oracle Red Bull Racing. I came to this Team eight months ago and immediately understood the scale and ambition of this organisation.”
“There are so many talented people at the factory, and you’re aware of the privilege of driving for such an incredible Team alongside a four-time World Champion like Max.”
Hadjar also said that his focus had been on proving himself on track rather than becoming involved in contract negotiations.
“I didn’t even talk about [the contract]. I let my people do the talking for me. I do it on the track and that’s about it, so it was very easy. If you’re good, you stay, and that’s it.”
Red Bull therefore enters the remainder of the 2026 season with its 2027 driver pairing already settled, while Hadjar now faces the immediate challenge of returning to competitive action in Baku.
