Sergio Perez could be one of the most sought-after names in Formula 1’s 2027 driver market, with multiple teams reportedly monitoring the Mexican’s situation, despite Cadillac’s difficult start to the 2026 season.
While Perez has yet to score a point during the opening seven races of the campaign, his performances in a struggling Cadillac have reportedly caught the attention of rival teams.
According to RacingNews365, Williams, Aston Martin, and Alpine are all evaluating the 36-year-old as a potential signing should opportunities arise over the coming months. TJ13 believes that Carlos Sainz Jr has been looking elsewhere for a seat, which could free up a drive at Williams.
Williams preparing for possible driver departures
Williams is understood to be among the teams most interested in Perez, as uncertainty continues to surround its current driver line-up.
Both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon have been linked with potential exits, amid concerns over the team’s ability to challenge at the front of the grid in the coming seasons.
TJ13 understands that discussions involving Sainz’s management and rival teams have taken place, despite the Spaniard’s public commitment to Williams. Audi has frequently been linked with the four-time Grand Prix winner, while speculation regarding Albon’s long-term future has also persisted throughout the paddock.
Should either driver depart, RacingNews365 reports that Williams sees Perez as a leading replacement candidate, and could be prepared to make a significant financial commitment to secure his services.
Aston Martin waiting on Fernando Alonso decision
Perez is also reportedly under consideration at Aston Martin, as questions continue to surround Fernando Alonso’s future.
The two-time world champion remains under contract, but has yet to publicly commit to Aston Martin’s long-term project beyond the current campaign. Recent reports have linked Alonso with a potential move to Alpine, where his long-time manager, Flavio Briatore, now plays a key role in the team’s leadership structure.
According to RacingNews365, Alonso wants to evaluate Aston Martin’s major upgrade package before making a decision on his future. The package is expected to arrive between the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps and the Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort.
Pérez’s previous history with the Silverstone-based operation could strengthen his case. The Mexican raced for Force India and Racing Point between 2014 and 2020, meaning he already has established relationships with many staff members who remain within the organisation today.
Alpine keeping alternatives open?
Alpine is also said to be monitoring Perez‘s availability as it evaluates multiple options for 2027.
A significant factor is Mercado Libre, one of Perez’s long-standing commercial partners, which also maintains ties with Alpine through sponsorship agreements.
However, reports suggest Perez is not currently the team’s first-choice target. Alonso remains Alpine’s preferred option, should he decide to leave Aston Martin.
If a deal for the Spaniard proves impossible, Perez could quickly emerge as a serious alternative for the Enstone-based team.
Why Perez’s stock is rising again
Although Perez’s statistics do not currently reflect it, several paddock observers have been impressed by the way he has handled Cadillac’s challenging debut season.
The Mexican has consistently extracted strong qualifying and race performances from a car that has struggled for competitiveness, demonstrating the experience and technical feedback that made him one of Formula 1’s most respected midfield operators before his move to Red Bull.
With several major driver decisions expected over the coming months, Perez’s name is increasingly appearing in conversations across the paddock. What initially appeared to be a difficult final chapter in Formula 1 may instead be evolving into the start of an unexpected second act.
As the 2027 market begins to take shape, Williams, Aston Martin, and Alpine are all reportedly keeping a close eye on Cadillac’s most experienced driver.
