Alain Prost robbed and injured after armed home invasion at Swiss villa

Four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost was reportedly the victim of an armed burglary at his villa in Nyon, Switzerland, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to the Swiss newspaper Blick, the former racing driver was injured during the incident, which occurred when several masked intruders allegedly forced their way into the family home.

The incident reportedly took place at around 08:30 local time on 19 May. During the confrontation, Prost reportedly suffered a head injury, and members of his family were threatened by the attackers. One of Prost’s sons was reportedly forced to open the family safe while the intruders searched the property for valuables.

Authorities in the canton of Vaud have since launched a large-scale investigation, and the police are still searching for those responsible. This burglary is believed to be part of an increasing trend of violent ‘homejackings’ targeting wealthy households in the Lake Geneva region.

Prost was reportedly injured during the confrontation

According to reports from Swiss media, several masked individuals entered the property and confronted Prost and his family inside the villa. During the altercation, the 71-year-old reportedly sustained a minor head injury.

Although the injuries are not believed to be serious, the psychological impact of the attack appears significant. Local media reports claim that a specialist care team attended the scene shortly after the emergency services arrived.

The exact value and nature of the stolen items have not yet been officially disclosed by investigators. However, the incident has attracted particular attention because of Prost’s long-standing association with the luxury watch manufacturer Richard Mille.

Authorities are believed to be investigating whether high-value watches or jewellery were specifically targeted.

Despite the traumatic nature of the incident, Prost reportedly escaped without serious injury and has since returned to Dubai, where he spends part of the year pursuing interests outside of Formula 1, such as cycling and golf.

Swiss and French authorities have launched a joint search

Police in the canton of Vaud responded quickly after the alarm was raised, deploying standard patrol officers alongside dog units and forensic investigators. It is believed that the authorities also contacted French law enforcement agencies after investigators concluded that the suspects may have crossed the nearby border into France following the robbery.

The Vaud public prosecutor’s office has confirmed that criminal proceedings have been initiated, but has declined to officially identify the family involved. No arrests have yet been made, and investigators are continuing to examine evidence gathered from the property.

The case has generated widespread attention across the Formula 1 community, given Prost’s legendary status within the sport. Regarded as one of the greatest drivers in Formula 1 history, Prost won four world championships between 1985 and 1993 and remains one of the sport’s most influential figures.

There is growing concern over ‘homejackings’ near Lake Geneva

The attack on Prost comes amid growing concern over organised burglary gangs operating in the Lake Geneva area. Security experts and local authorities have noted an increase in so-called ‘homejackings’, in which wealthy residents are targeted directly inside their homes.

These robberies are often highly coordinated and frequently target luxury watches, jewellery, and other portable valuables. According to regional reports, the authorities in the canton of Geneva alone recorded 18 similar cases in 2025.

The increase in such crimes has sparked a debate about security measures for high-profile individuals living in Switzerland’s affluent border regions. It is believed that criminal groups take advantage of the region’s international road network and proximity to multiple jurisdictions to evade capture.
