Verstappen confirms contact with Aston Martin

Verstappen laughs off Aston Martin rumours: “A lot of money” – Max Verstappen, the reigning four-time Formula One World Champion, is contracted to Red Bull Racing until 2028. But that hasn’t stopped rumours of a possible exit – most recently linking him with Aston Martin. Speculation of a big-money move to the Silverstone-based outfit gained traction earlier this year, especially after Aston Martin secured the services of legendary  Red Bull designer Adrian Newey.

Major sponsors were said to be pushing for an astronomical offer to bring Verstappen to the team. Now, for the first time, Verstappen has addressed the rumours – albeit with a laugh – and confirmed that while he has been in contact with Aston Martin, it has nothing to do with a move away from Red Bull.

Aston Martin has taken aggressive steps to position itself at the forefront of Formula One, investing heavily in both infrastructure and personnel.

The team’s acquisition of Adrian Newey, widely regarded as the greatest designer in F1 history, sent shockwaves through the paddock. With the right engineering minds and financial backing, Aston Martin seems intent on becoming a title contender in the near future.

Unsurprisingly, speculation has been rife that Aston Martin could be eyeing Verstappen as the next big name to lead their project. Reports in the Daily Mail, citing an anonymous insider, suggested that the team was prepared to put together an unprecedented billion-dollar package to lure the Dutchman to Silverstone.

Aston Martin were quick to dismiss the claims and deny any approach for Verstappen. However, given the team’s aggressive recruitment strategy, some fans and pundits continued to wonder if there was any truth to the speculation.

Verstappen responds: “That’s a lot of money!”

During the official launch event for the new Formula One season, Verstappen was asked directly about the rumoured billion-dollar offer. His response made it clear that he found the whole situation amusing.

“That’s a lot of money!” Verstappen laughed when the subject was raised at the press conference. While confirming contact with Aston Martin, he was quick to clarify that it had nothing to do with a move to their F1 team.

“When I read that, to be honest, it was the first time I had seen anything like that,” Verstappen admitted. “The only contact I had with them was about the GT3 series this year.”

Verstappen is referring to his latest motorsport project – a GT3 racing team that he plans to launch in 2025. The Dutchman has long been passionate about endurance racing and aims to provide opportunities for young talent through his Verstappen.com Racing initiative. Instead of relying on traditional karting routes, Verstappen wants to use sim racing as an entry point for the next generation of GT3 drivers.

His comments made it clear that any discussions he has had with Aston Martin have been purely about this project, and not about a move within Formula 1.

Committed to Red Bull and focused on the future

Despite the ongoing rumours, Verstappen remains fully committed to Red Bull Racing. With a long-term contract in place until 2028 and a dominant car under his belt, he has little reason to consider a change of scenery.

The Dutchman has also been vocal about his loyalty to Red Bull, particularly in light of the team’s recent success. “There’s really not much to say because there is nothing,” he insisted, putting paid to any speculation about a possible exit.

Verstappen’s firm stance is in line with Red Bull’s vision for the future. The team remains the dominant force in F1, and with new regulations set to come into force in 2026, Red Bull is determined to stay ahead of the competition. Verstappen, who has won four consecutive world championships with the team, remains at the centre of this project.

What’s next for Verstappen and Red Bull?

As the 2025 season approaches, Verstappen’s focus remains firmly on continuing his F1 dominance. While his side ventures into GT3 racing show his passion for motorsport beyond F1, they do not signal any intention of leaving Red Bull any time soon.

Aston Martin, meanwhile, continue to build their future, with Newey’s expertise set to play a major role in their long-term plans. But for now, any hopes of seeing Verstappen in green appear to be nothing more than wishful thinking.

For the Dutchman, the priorities remain clear: winning races, securing championships and cementing his legacy with Red Bull Racing. The billion-dollar rumours? Just a funny headline for him to laugh at.

Ever the sport thats innovating, Formula One delivered its first ever combined launch event for all the ten teams at the 20,000 seater O2 arena in London last night. It was full of dazzling lasers, smoke and lighting effects as in reverse order of their finishing spot in the 2024 championship, the teams were introduced.

British comedian Jack Whitehall conducted the role of MC and his jibes were aplenty those aimed at including Max, Verstappen, George Russell, Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff. Many of the team’s liveries for this year were little changed from 2024 as McLaren boss Zak Brown stated the reason for his metro’s continuity was to honour their achievement of winning the constructors’ championship for the first time in 26 years.

Red Bull similarly will run a similar livery to the one which saw Max Verstappen become a four times consecutive F1 drivers’ champion.
