“Max Verstappen to leave Red Bull next year”

Paddock Talk: Could Max Verstappen leave Red Bull for Aston Martin in 2025? Rumours surrounding Max Verstappen’s future in Formula One have taken a surprising turn as speculation mounts that the Dutchman could part company with Red Bull and join Aston Martin. With Aston Martin owner Lawrence Stroll having recently hired design mastermind Adrian Newey, known for his innovations at Red Bull, some believe the move could be part of a wider strategy to lure Verstappen to the British outfit.

Speaking on the popular *Formula 1 Paddock Talk* podcast, driver Jeroen Bleekemolen confidently predicted that Verstappen could leave Red Bull before the end of his contract, hinting at a possible move as early as 2025. His bold claim has added fuel to the fire in a sport where speculation is never far from reality.

Bleekemolen: ‘Verstappen will break his contract’

Jeroen Bleekemolen, who has deep ties to motorsport himself, including winning the 2008 Le Mans 24 Hours alongside Verstappen’s father Jos, was emphatic about Verstappen’s future. He believes the Dutchman could lose patience with Red Bull if the team fails to deliver another championship-winning car.

“I think things won’t be right at Red Bull next year and that Verstappen will go completely crazy if he’s not fighting for victories,” said Bleekemolen.

He went on to speculate that such frustration could lead Verstappen to make the unprecedented decision of walking away from his current contract with the Austrian team. “If it’s not working, it’s not working. Then he’ll break the contract.”

Bleekemolen pointed to Stroll’s determination to create a title-winning team at Aston Martin, adding that the Canadian businessman would go to great lengths to bring Verstappen into the fold.

“Stroll wants Verstappen one hundred per cent,” said Bleekemolen. “If he can make a deal with him, then I think Verstappen will just sign.”

Bleekemolen’s comments come amid rumours that Aston Martin is stepping up its ambitions in endurance racing as well as F1. The driver hinted that Fernando Alonso, the current Aston Martin star, could move to Aston Martin’s Le Mans project by 2026.

He even floated the idea that Verstappen, with his well-known interest in endurance racing, could be part of that effort.

“Alonso will be driving for Aston Martin at Le Mans in 2026, maybe together with Max because he likes it too,” Bleekemolen mused.

A growing team: Aston Martin’s ambitions

The prospect of Verstappen leaving Red Bull for Aston Martin may once have seemed far-fetched, but recent developments have made it less so. Adrian Newey, widely regarded as one of F1’s most brilliant technical minds, has been instrumental in designing many of Red Bull’s title-winning cars, including those driven by Sebastian Vettel and Verstappen.

His arrival at Aston Martin signals that Stroll is serious about building a team capable of challenging Mercedes and Ferrari at the top of the grid.

Bleekemolen’s prediction fits neatly into this wider narrative.

“A lot of people are going to Aston Martin,” he noted, referring to the influx of technical talent and investment into the team. With a growing reputation and renewed ambition, Aston Martin could be an attractive option for Verstappen if Red Bull’s performance falters.

The Mercedes alternative?

Not everyone in the F1 paddock agrees with Bleekemolen’s assessment. Motorsport reporter Frank Woestenburg, also a guest on Paddock Talk, was less convinced by the idea of Verstappen joining Aston Martin.

Instead, he speculated that Mercedes could be a more likely destination for the Dutch champion should he decide to leave Red Bull.

Woestenburg’s view is based on Mercedes’ established pedigree in F1. Although the team has struggled since the end of its dominant run in 2021, it remains a formidable competitor and could be an enticing option for Verstappen. Lewis Hamilton’s future with the team is uncertain as the seven-time world champion enters the twilight of his career. If Hamilton retires, Verstappen could take his seat and join forces with Mercedes in one of the most high-profile moves in recent F1 history.

While Woestenburg acknowledges Aston Martin’s growth, he sees Mercedes as a safer bet for a driver of Verstappen’s calibre.

“I don’t see him taking that risk with Aston Martin when he could go to Mercedes and continue to fight at the top,” Woestenburg argued.

Verstappen’s contract and future speculation

The idea of Verstappen leaving Red Bull is certainly an intriguing one, especially given that his current contract runs until 2028. Red Bull and Verstappen have been a dominant force in F1, with Verstappen winning his first world championship in 2021 and continuing to rack up victories since.

However, as with any dominant figure in the sport, the prospect of change is never completely off the table. Verstappen’s competitive nature is well known, and should Red Bull face significant challenges, he may not wait out the duration of his contract. As Bleekemolen suggested, if the partnership with Red Bull begins to falter, Verstappen’s ambitions could drive him to seek new challenges elsewhere.

The next few years could see big changes at the top of Formula One. The rise of Aston Martin, the ongoing rebuilding of Mercedes and Red Bull’s ability to maintain its dominance will all play a key role in determining where the sport’s biggest stars end up. Whether Max Verstappen stays with Red Bull or takes his talents elsewhere will be one of the biggest stories to watch in the world of motorsport.

  1. The thing about Verstappen taking Hamilton’s seat after he retires is so wrong cuz Hamilton has moved to Ferrari and Mercedes has already brought a replacement for Hamilton, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. So there’s no way Verstappen goes to Mercedes, unless they take Russel out of the equation
