In the world of Formula One, a new and dynamic force has emerged in the form of Edward Craven, a 28-year-old Australian entrepreneur who has not only made a name for himself in the crypto and gaming industries but has also set his sights on the prestigious world of Formula One racing. His first steps in owning the team name certainly would have you believe the youngster thinks himself a pseudo ‘team owner’, but this is how many have started – Red Bull, and Lawrence Stroll, to name a couple.
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Edward Craven has quickly risen to become the country’s youngest billionaire. His company, Stake.com, a prominent player in the cryptocurrency and online gambling market, has secured name ownership of the Sauber Formula One team, with plans to rename it Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber in 2024.
The move marks a significant shift in the Formula One landscape, bringing a fresh perspective from a young and successful entrepreneur, at least that’s what the official spiel wishes to convey.

A diverse portfolio
In fairness, Craven’s entrepreneurial journey has been nothing short of remarkable. As well as owning Stake.com, he also launched streaming platform Kick.com in 2022. His ventures have attracted high-profile endorsements, including partnerships with the likes of Drake and UFC star Israel Adesanya.
Back in his hometown, he made headlines 18 months ago with the purchase of two lavish mansions in Toorak, reflecting his rising status and success.
Craven’s foray into sports sponsorship is not limited to Formula One. His betting company is the main sponsor of English football clubs Everton and Watford, demonstrating his interest in diversifying into different sports. This expansion has been a strategic move, using the global appeal of sport to enhance his business ventures.
Stake previously sponsored the Alfa Romeo F1 team, which will be renamed Stake F1 team from 2024.
“Driven by a deep passion for speed, innovation and pushing boundaries, we are now ideally positioned to take the team to unprecedented heights from 2024 and beyond,” he said.

Ambitious plans for the Sauber F1 Team
The transformation of the Sauber Team into the Stake F1 Team represents Craven’s deep passion for innovation and pushing the boundaries say their marketing team. With plans for “mind-blowing activations” on and off the track, Craven is ready to bring a new level of excitement and dynamism to the team’s operations within the paddock.
“The coming years will be a thrilling ride with some breathtaking activations planned that will redefine excitement on and off the track,” Craven says with a typical marketing type of spiel.
His vision for the team extends beyond traditional racing to take it to unprecedented heights in the years to come. That is until Audi takes over the Swiss-based squad permanently, or perhaps if ever.
A thriving business empire
Craven and his business partner Bijan Tehrani have built an empire that reportedly generates an average of $400 million a day through their online casino and sports betting business. Despite facing regulatory challenges in Australia, their ventures have flourished, with Stake.com currently based in Curacao.
Their entrepreneurial journey has been a rollercoaster, marked by significant successes and legal hurdles, including a dismissed $580 million lawsuit in a US court.

Implications for the streaming service and F1
The new F1 deal is expected to significantly boost the development of Craven’s streaming service, Kick.com – a rival platform for the Amazon-owned Twitch. Tehrani believes that their knowledge of motorsport culture and passion for cutting-edge technology will enhance their relationship with Formula One. This partnership not only benefits Stake.com, but also introduces a new audience to the sport and expands its global fan base.
“We are thrilled to take our collaboration to an unparalleled magnitude, backed by our knowledge of the motorsport culture, and our passion for cutting-edge technology,” he said.

With the rebranding of the Sauber team and the integration of innovative marketing strategies, the 2024 Formula One season is set to be an exciting new chapter for the Australian. Team representative Alessandro Alunni Bravi praises Stake’s ability to tap into the sport’s growing fan base and its role in bringing new audiences to Formula One.
“We are thrilled to take our collaboration to an unparalleled magnitude, backed by our knowledge of the motorsport culture, and our passion for cutting-edge technology,” he said.
“Exceptionally, this universally popular sport, aligns perfectly with our product and what we are building at Kick.com.’
The coming season promises more exciting events and collaborations, signalling a bright season, at least in terms of marketing, for the Stake F1 Team Kick Sauber using Craven’s cash injection.
