Four-time Formula One world champion Sebastian Vettel has spoken out about his future in F1, a sport he could leave for a very specific reason and it isn’t what you’re probably thinking.
Sebastian Vettel has been in Formula 1 since 2007, winning four F1 world championships with Red Bull, before moving to Ferrari and then Aston Martin. The 34-year-old German is one of the oldest drivers in the field and the question of his future in the sport naturally arises, especially with a car with poor performance and an Aston Martin team in crisis that prevents him from fighting for victory. While Vettel has already hinted at a potential retirement, he may be leaving Formula One for ecological, not sporting, reasons.
“I have a lot of questions” admits Vettel.
Sebastian Vettel told the BBC’s Question Time that “It’s my passion to drive a car, and I love it.”
The German multple champion conintues:
“And every time I get in the car, I love it. When I get out of the car, of course I think, and I also ask myself if it is something we should do to travel around the world wasting resources’, before adding: ‘I am not a saint.”
A family man, Vettel is perhaps one of the more ’rounded’ drivers in Formula 1, compared to some.
“I’m very concerned about the future, and therefore about these issues around energy, and energy dependency along with where we are going in the future. I have a lot of questions.” said the German.
Vettel is under contract with Aston Martin until the end of the 2022 season, it is unlikely he will renew.
While quitting is possible, I’m still positive he’ll continue anyway, but time will tell.
BS… He doesnt get tbd happy treatment from Whitmarsh the way he did from Otmar. And there are no teams that will pay his salary.
He knows it’s time to hang up his shoes before be gets dropped. If he leaves on a high note he can Congo he in a management role. If he gets dropped his career is on hold for 5+ years.
Mick Schumacher is showing the over rated driver that he is. So he won’t be able to ride the schu\ferrari move as a coach engineer manager.
He didn’t think this the last 15 years he’s been paid well to drive racing cars , easy to say he’s doing it for ecological reasons when he’s due to retire anyway , if he feels that strongly about it finish now or is he waiting to see if he can get another good contract and a few more million in the bank before he makes a decision , hypocrite that’s all he is

I’m sure that Seb is in rapture about your comments. Seeing as you all are such experts at F1 and human behavior. Where did you get your degree? What team did you drive for?
Vettel actually has a long history of ecological pursuits and a seemingly honest desire to see F1 continue to be popular in a world of millions of EV owners that believe the ICE is destined for the scrap heap. F1 was supposed to be the series that was on the forefront of technological innovations in racing power and design. If you really just wanted to watch a racing series that used everyday parts from NAPA or AutoZone and drivers that smash into one another, on purpose, you can watch anything with NASCAR in it’s name on any weekend.
F1 is unfortunately set to keep the same engines through 2023 or 2024 so not much is currently changing. I think Vettel just wants F1 to be more environmentaly innovative sooner rather than later. And any way Aston Martin goes, Seb is definitely many, many levels better than the other Aston Martin “driver”, no matter how much money his daddy has.

I can tell you for certain, F1 has not been about the forefront of technology since about 15 years before the second to last Concorde agreement.
