The Frenchman confirms that he will also compete as a Mercedes Junior for the Silverstone team in 2018.
The team also confirmed that Sergio Pérez’s contract extension means that the Mexican will stay at Force India for another year. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old Frenchman today, “Now it is official, and I can say that I am very happy to continue with Force India and Mercedes 2018”
Ocon had his GP debut last year in Belgium. On the challenging Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps he finished 16th with Manor Racing.
He got his first points with Force India this season. The very talented driver came as a tenth in his Melbourne GP debut but his best finish so far was at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya at the Spanish GP finishing up 5th.
In Singapore he had to settle for tenth place. “At least we had the difficult weekend behind us,” admits the Force India driver.
“I got a very good start, but I had problems on both the rain and the intermediate compounds. It was quite different in Monza, where I felt much more comfortable in the rain. But something has not worked in Singapore and I honestly do not know why. I therefore fell behind a few slower cars. ”
“After the track was dry again, I had a good pace again. But I just could not overtake – that’s just very difficult on this track, ”
“Ultimately, it’s good to have saved a point, but I want more! We need to find out what’s wrong and move back in Malaysia. ”
This move is obviously a good one for entertainment value as both Ocon and Perez have come to blows on more than one occasion this season.
