Norris suggests McLaren could be his only F1 team after 2030 contract extension – Lando Norris has suggested that he could spend his entire Formula 1 career with McLaren after committing his long-term future to the team. The 2025 world champion extended his contract through at least 2030 and says there is currently no reason for him to consider leaving the team that gave him his F1 opportunity.
McLaren announced the extension last weekend, with Norris’ previous contract reportedly running until 2027. The new agreement keeps the 26-year-old at the team until at least 2030, while McLaren has also confirmed that a multi-year option could extend the partnership beyond that point.
According to the Telegraph, Norris’ new deal is worth the equivalent of around €35 million per year. However, it is his comments about potentially never driving for another F1 team that have attracted particular attention.
Norris believes McLaren can deliver more world titles
Speaking ahead of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Norris explained why he was comfortable committing such a significant portion of his career to McLaren.
“I believe I can win further world championship titles with McLaren, so there’s no reason for me to want to leave,” Norris said when asked about his decision.
The Briton’s confidence reflects McLaren’s transformation in recent seasons. After joining the team in 2019, Norris has developed into a championship contender and ultimately secured his first drivers’ world title in 2025.
For Norris, however, remaining with McLaren is about more than simply having a competitive car. He also values the relationships he has built within the organisation.
Norris could stay with McLaren for his entire career
Norris went further when discussing the possibility of remaining with McLaren until his retirement from Formula 1.
“I think it’s possible to spend my entire career at McLaren. I would be very happy and proud to drive exclusively for McLaren throughout my entire career,” he said.
Such a scenario would be unusual in modern Formula 1, where leading drivers frequently move between teams in search of competitive advantages. Norris, however, sees little incentive to make such a change if McLaren continues to provide him with a realistic opportunity to fight for championships.
The 26-year-old described his current situation as “a perfect situation” and outlined the factors that ultimately determine whether he would consider leaving.
Norris has little reason to seek a new challenge
“There are two important things for me. First: Can we win world championships? Do I believe that I am with a team that can give me a car with which I can perform – also for them – and win races and championships together? The simple answer is: Yes.”
Norris added that he would not see the point in leaving McLaren simply to experience another team if both organisations were capable of competing at the front.
“If I believe I can win with this team, I don’t want to switch to another, equally competitive team just to try something new. I prefer to stay with people I enjoy spending time with and with the family that gave me the opportunity in Formula 1,” he explained.
That final point appears particularly significant. Norris joined McLaren’s young driver programme before making his F1 debut with the team in 2019, meaning the partnership has been central to his career from the beginning.
“Do I enjoy being with the people I’m with? Yes, I do. There’s absolutely no reason to change anything.”
For now, Norris is therefore committed to McLaren until at least 2030. If the team continues to provide him with a car capable of fighting for championships, his latest comments suggest that his future could extend well beyond that contract — potentially making McLaren the only team he ever drives for in Formula 1.
