Michael Schumacher: An Ex-Girlfriend knows the sad truth

Over a decade has passed since the life-changing skiing accident, and Michael Schumacher still remains absent from the public eye, and from the everyday life his family once knew. In a rare and deeply emotional moment in the 2021 Netflix documentary Schumacher, his son Mick Schumacher offered a glimpse into that reality, reflecting on loss, longing, and the forever-altered bond between them.

The 2025 Netflix documentary did not reveal any new medical details about the seven-time Formula 1 world champion’s condition. Instead, it told a more personal story, that of a family learning to live with absence while fiercely protecting the man they love. But in recent days, a new name has appeared in the Schumacher story, who had been granted time with the German Formula 1 legend in recent years.

A family outing turned tragic

By the end of 2013, Michael Schumacher had long since retired from Formula 1 and was enjoying a quieter life with his family. During a skiing holiday in Méribel, France, tragedy struck. On 29 December, while skiing off-piste nearby with his teenage son Mick, Schumacher fell and hit his head on a hidden rock.

Despite wearing a helmet, the impact caused severe brain trauma. He was airlifted to a hospital in Grenoble, where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in a medically induced coma.

In the immediate aftermath, many fans and well-wishers around the world were glued to news channels, hoping for signs of improvement in Schumacher’s condition. Doctors confirmed that he had suffered extensive trauma to his brain, making recovery a challenging and delicate process. What followed was a long period of rehabilitation, first in hospitals and rehabilitation centres and finally at Schumacher’s home in Switzerland.

Months passed with little clarity. When he was brought out of the coma in April 2014, his family retreated further from the public eye, releasing only minimal information.

From that point on, privacy became absolute, a principle that still defines everything surrounding Michael Schumacher today.

A Son’s Voice, a Family’s Pain

In Schumacher, Mick Schumacher broke years of silence with words that captured both grief and yearning. By then a Formula 1 driver himself, Mick spoke about the conversations that might have taken place had fate taken a different path.

“Dad and I would understand each other differently now,” he said. ‘Simply because we speak a similar language, the language of motorsport. We would have so much more to talk about.”

He paused before adding, “That’s where my head is most of the time. I think about how cool that would be. I would give up everything just for that.”

The pain was not just about what was lost, but also about what never had the chance to exist: shared race weekends, technical debates and a father guiding his son through the same world he once dominated.

Memories from a Simpler Time

The documentary is filled with home videos and photographs that show a very different Schumacher family life, far removed from paddocks and podiums.

“When I think about the past, I usually see images of the four of us having fun,” said Mick, referring to himself, his sister Gina, and their parents Michael and Corinna.

“I see us driving a go-kart in the meadow, out with the ponies, sitting on the carriage. There are so many joyful moments.”

Then comes the quiet reality of what followed.

“Since the accident, these experiences, the moments that many people have with their parents, have either disappeared or become less frequent,” he said. “And in my view, that is a little unfair.”

Corinna Schumacher: The Quiet Pillar of Strength

Michael’s wife, Corinna, also played a central role in the documentary. Calm, composed and resolute, she spoke clearly about her decision to shield her husband from the outside world.

“Michael is here,” she said. “He’s different, but he’s here. And that gives us strength.”

She described a life defined by routine, therapy and care, all of which were carried out away from cameras and speculation.

“We live together at home. We do therapy. We’re doing everything we can to help Michael get better and ensure he’s comfortable,” Corinna explained.

“Private is private. It’s very important to me that he can continue to enjoy his private life as much as possible.”

Her closing words became the emotional core of the film. “Michael always protected us. And now we are protecting Michael.”

The Schumacher Silence

In a sport driven by constant headlines and exposure, the ability of the Schumacher family to maintain total discretion is remarkable. No photographs or videos have emerged, nor have there been any detailed medical updates since 2013.

Occasionally, close friends such as former Ferrari boss Jean Todt have confirmed visits, but even those remarks have been carefully measured. The silence itself has become part of Schumacher’s legacy, preserving the image of the champion that fans remember rather than replacing it with speculation.

However, this carefully guarded silence means that only a very small, trusted circle truly knows the reality of Michael Schumacher’s condition, a circle that remains extraordinarily limited, even years later.

Update December 2025: Who Knows the Truth About Michael Schumacher’s Condition?

Over the years, the trusted circle has included only a handful of trusted figures, primarily from within Formula 1. Among them are former Ferrari team principal Jean Todt, ex-driver Luca Badoer and Schumacher’s long-time manager Sabine Kehm, all of whom have consistently respected the family’s demand for total discretion.

However, an unexpected name has recently appeared in the media.

Former girlfriend of Mick Schumacher knows the sad truth

However, in late 2025, reports emerged suggesting that another individual had also been granted access. According to the Daily Mail, Danish model Laila Hasanovic is one of the few people outside Schumacher’s immediate family to know the sad truth about his condition.

Hasanovic’s connection to the Schumacher family predates her current relationship with Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner. She was previously in a serious relationship with Mick Schumacher, during which time she earned the family’s, particularly Corinna Schumacher’s, full trust.

This trust reportedly led to an extraordinary privilege: access to the family’s private home and a personal meeting with Michael Schumacher himself. Even after her relationship with Mick ended, Hasanovic has continued to respect the family’s privacy, revealing nothing publicly about Schumacher’s health.

Public interest in Schumacher as strong as ever

The reports underline a reality that has remained unchanged since 2013. While public interest in Michael Schumacher’s condition has never faded, the family’s determination to protect him remains undiminished. Those granted access have maintained absolute silence, thereby reinforcing the principle articulated so clearly by Corinna Schumacher in the Netflix documentary: ‘Private is private’.

As 2025 draws to a close, Michael Schumacher remains shrouded in mystery, not through secrecy for its own sake, but through loyalty, respect, and an unwavering commitment to dignity. The truth about his condition is known only to a select few, and all signs point to this continuing.

Thumbs up in Ferrari team attire.

Fresh revelations surrounding Lewis Hamilton’s future at Ferrari have rocked Formula 1, with new reports suggesting his contract with the Scuderia is significantly longer than initially assumed. According to Bild, the seven-time world champion is secured not only for the upcoming regulatory era, but also for a period well beyond 2026.

The German publication claims that Hamilton’s Ferrari deal runs until at least the end of the 2027 Formula 1 season. Even more intriguingly, the contract reportedly includes a unilateral option that would allow Hamilton to extend his stay by a further year, potentially keeping him at Ferrari until the end of 2028.

Hamilton’s clause

If he activates this clause, he will be 43 years old when the agreement expires. This information from BILD contrasts sharply with the widespread belief that Hamilton’s commitment to Ferrari would end in 2026, when the new engine regulations come into effect.

Neither Hamilton nor Ferrari has publicly confirmed the precise duration of the contract. When the blockbuster move was officially announced in February 2024, both parties described it only as a ‘multi-year’ agreement, leaving room…READ MORE
