Speaking to Auto Motor und Sport, Coyne praised Schumacher’s abilities and highlighted the challenges faced by talented drivers struggling to find a place in F1.

“There are all these Formula 2 drivers who finish first or second but have no real future in Formula 1. Mick Schumacher is the perfect example. We would love to have such a great driver here,” said Coyne. He revealed ongoing discussions with Schumacher, acknowledging the young driver’s hopes for a commitment to Alpine, but was optimistic about a possible collaboration.

“We are talking to Mick Schumacher,” admitted Coyne. “He is still pinning his hopes on the Alpine commitment. I would be delighted if we got the chance.”

Uncertainty and determination

For now, Schumacher’s full-time driving prospects for 2025 remain uncertain. Alongside his continued involvement in the WEC, the possibility of joining Alpine’s F1 team remains in play, particularly amid reports of dissatisfaction with Alpine’s current drivers, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly. However, Auto Motor und Sport suggest that Schumacher is not the first choice for Alpine.

Reflecting on his situation, Schumacher emphasised the importance of delivering strong performances both in the WEC and in his role as reserve driver for Mercedes.

“We have to hope that the dominoes fall my way and hopefully I will end up with a seat. What I can do is give my best performance in the WEC. But also to perform well as a reserve driver and continue the discussions,” said Schumacher recently.
