Fresh allegations sees Horner out of Red Bull says German media

The future of Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner hangs in the balance as fresh allegations emerge that is rumoured to hasten his departure from the Formula One team. Inside sources at Red Bull Racing suggest there is a growing consensus among the team’s top brass that Horner’s tenure should end sooner rather than later, with many calling for his immediate dismissal.

Red Bull Racing is on the brink of a major announcement regarding the future of team principal Christian Horner, amid an ongoing investigation into allegations of “inappropriate controlling behaviour” towards a female colleague. As the Formula One community turns its attention to the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix, Horner finds himself at a crossroads, with his career hanging in the balance over allegations made by a female employee about his behaviour. It is now thought that the Biritsh team boss is headed out of Red Bull imminently.

Decisions made

The spotlight on Horner has intensified since the allegations were made public on 5 February, following an investigation that has been underway since January. The investigation into Horner’s actions, led by Red Bull’s Austrian parent company based in Salzburg, is expected to reach a conclusion before the race in Sakhir.

Despite Horner’s silence when asked about the investigation last week, the issue has sparked reactions across the F1 paddock. McLaren’s Zak Brown and Mercedes’ Toto Wolff have both stressed the seriousness of the allegations, pleading for openness in the investigation and joining calls for a swift resolution.

The concern is not just for the integrity of Red Bull Racing, but for Formula One as a whole, as the sport faces unwanted scrutiny.

The controversy has overshadowed Red Bull Racing’s preparations for next season, with the investigation in Austria stretching over three weeks. Horner, who is married to former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, has expressed his hope for a speedy conclusion, while Red Bull’s star driver Max Verstappen has suggested that rivals may be using the situation to unsettle the team. Against this turbulent backdrop, Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has commented on the length of the investigation, highlighting the complexity of reaching a definitive conclusion.

Horner still denies allegations

Christian Horner, who has steadfastly denied the allegations, underwent an exhaustive eight-hour session with a leading lawyer as part of the investigation process. Horner’s stance remains firm as he seeks to exonerate himself from the allegations, which focus on alleged ‘controlling’ behaviour.

The timing of this controversy is particularly poignant following Red Bull Racing’s historic performance last season, in which the team secured 21 wins from 22 races. With the team poised to defend their title and Verstappen eyeing a fourth consecutive championship, the resolution of Horner’s situation is even more critical to maintaining the team’s focus and morale as they head into the new season.

Growing dissent within Red Bull Racing

The German based f1-insider website has shed light on the internal dissent within Red Bull Racing, suggesting that Horner is facing opposition from several quarters within the team. In particular, the “Verstappen clan”, chief designer Adrian Newey and team advisor Helmut Marko are among those who have reportedly lost confidence in Horner’s leadership.

“Rather today than tomorrow” Red Bull management would pull the ripcord and throw Christian Horner out the door, claims the F1-insider.

The situation is further complicated by the stance of Red Bull heir Mark Mateschitz and CEO Oliver Mintzlaff, who are also inclined to sever ties with Horner but are constrained by contractual obligations.

Yoovidhya family support for Horner

The decisive factor in Horner’s fate appears to be the Yoovidhya family from Thailand, who own 51 per cent of Red Bull GmbH. The family’s support for Horner has been a crucial shield against his dismissal. The death of Dietrich Mateschitz in 2022 marked the end of an era in which the Austrian mogul had the final say on key personnel decisions, a privilege that did not extend beyond his lifetime.

As a result, any decision to part ways with Horner must now be approved by the Yoovidhya family.

Fresh allegations surfaced

Allegations of inappropriate behaviour towards an employee are now well known to the public, casting a shadow over Horner’s leadership. However, it is believed that these allegations are just the tip of the iceberg. Sources close to the situation describe Horner as out of touch with the reality of the team’s dynamics, often seeing himself as the sole architect of the team’s recent successes says F1-Insider.

“Horner lives on another planet. He is no longer from this world,” writes the website on the topic.

This self-aggrandising attitude has reportedly alienated other team leaders and added to the mounting pressure for change.

As the Bahrain Formula One season opener approaches, Horner’s presence at the helm of the team remains uncertain. With the possibility that Red Bull Racing could announce its parting of the ways with Horner as early as Wednesday, the team faces a tumultuous period that could see the end of one of the most successful partnerships in the sport’s history.

The unfolding drama at Red Bull Racing underlines the complex interplay of personalities, power and politics in the high-pressure environment of Formula One. As the team grapples with these internal challenges, the focus shifts to how it will deal with the potential departure of a key figure such as Horner and the impact it could have on its future success.

    • Just a smeer campaign from news sites that cannot wait the official release. Which is out now, and Horner stays. So we can now filter out which news sites are just making things up

  1. It has been outed that this is an internal power struggle between the “Austrians” and the non “Austrians” inside RedBull.
And I don’t even think it’s that simple but rather the new ceo of RB vs Horner. Its a spout between two people who don’t like each other, and a fight for pride, control of power sports inside RB…

The other team principles can make a small sound bite because in today’s world they have to sound like they condemn all acts that are not PC…and the press will run it as a headline. Plus in racing anything to unstablize your opponent is key.

Apparently the victim in this isn’t a victim by choice, has been told to file the complaint and that is one of the reasons this is so sideways.

It’s hard to fire someone for an act when the “victim” said they weren’t being victimized.

So now it’s about “being controlling” and demanding staff work hard… it’s an F1 team. He is the team principal.

I’m not a Horner fan… but this is BS. I’m even less of a Wolff fan. And it’s amazing how this came right at the end of Wolff and his wife being accused to sharing confidential upcoming sporting regulations.

They called the accusations every dog whistle name in the book. I’m suprised Toto Wolff didn’t call it racism because of Hamilton being their driver.

The investigation was cancelled because of it being called bigoted because Susie Wolff is a woman.

The teams signing a petition was too much and the press started looking at the allegations because that was odd…
And then bang: Horner issue… Wolffs are out of the spotlight…. FIA and media drop the Wolff investigation.

  2. Lol the F1 media is dirty AF, their agenda is made so clear once you see who’s parroting this anti RBR narrative, including Brown and Wolff. Same media responses so very differently to the earlier allegations against Susie Wolff and now they’re going for Horner with some menace. All of this in light of the RBR statement exonerating Horner of any misconduct after an external investigation just tells us how y’all somehow want the glory fucking Merc days back. Laughable at best
