Sneaky preseason test for Piastri & Norris

Piastri and Norris test in Barcelona for McLaren. The McLaren team is in Barcelona this week to test its two drivers in a sneaky preseason run, albeit in an older Formula 1 car. Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are getting back into the swing of things before the 2023 F1 season kicks off in Bahrain in early March.

McLaren drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri are in Barcelona this week for private testing organised by the British team ahead of the 2023 Formula One season which starts in Bahrain on March 5.

On Wednesday, Lando Norris took the wheel of the McLaren MCL35M for the 2021 season at the Spanish track. The British driver was able to regain some of his Formula 1 ‘feel’ after several weeks of inactivity since the last race of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi last November.

On Thursday, Lando Norris’ new team-mate, Australian Oscar Piastri, also took to the track in the MCL35M for the 2021 season. The youngster, who begins his Formula One career this year with McLaren, had previously completed 123 laps in the 2022 car during the post-season Young Driver Test at the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi in December.

For Aussie Piastri, the day offers further integration into the race team, with the chance to familiarise himself with the circuit workings, engineering trends and other nuances that are unique to McLaren.

Following the two-day private test in Barcelona (which is just a way of getting the team back up and running before the start of the new season), the British team will present its new 2023 car on February 13 in an event that will be broadcast live on its social media channels.
