Overnight rain in Hungary will favour Mercedes F1 car setup for the race. The qualifying session for the 2022 Hungarian GP confused the Mercedes team and F1 pundits alike. In a scorching Friday practice the Silver Arrows was miles off the pace. Yet in the cooler temperatures of qualifying both drivers were in the hunt for pole position.
What confused everyone was the fact the Mercedes car takes longer than others to warm up its tyres and the cooler conditions should have made the team less competitive.
However, Mercedes test driver and Sky Pundit Anthony Davidson explained what had happened.
Overnight rain in Hungary means the track again will be green for today’s race and based on Davidson’s theory should play into Mercedes and George Russell’s hands.
The British driver starts ahead of the Ferrari’s in pole position.
