War declared on McLaren

Ocon declares war on McLaren. All eyes are on the duel between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc for the Formula 1 world championship title. Thanks to his victory at the French Grand Prix, the Dutchman has increased his advantage over the Ferrari driver. But this is not the only duel on the grid. There is also a war going on between the teams, as Esteban Ocon, who is involved in the Alpine battle with McLaren, pointed out.

This weekend, Formula 1 is in Hungary. The 13th round of the season takes place in Budapest on the Hungaroring circuit. Of course, the duel between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc for the title of world champion will continue. And at the moment, it is the Dutchman, the reigning champion, who has the advantage.

His victory in the French Grand Prix, combined with the retirement of the Ferrari driver, has put him in the best possible position in the standings. But there is also the constructors’ ranking and every place counts. If Red Bull is largely in the lead, behind them, for 4th place, there is only a 4 point gap between Alpine and McLaren.

Between Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Lando Norris and Daniel Ricciardo, the challenge will be to win the maximum number of points for his team. And the Frenchman is ready to go into battle.

This Hungarian Grand Prix will also be the scene of a battle between Alpine and McLaren. This Thursday, speaking to RMC, Esteban Ocon, who finished 8th in the French Grand Prix, spoke about the duel between the two teams.

“Eighth is not the best result but it is important to score, to continue to score good points. We have to finish ahead of McLaren. We have to beat them in the constructors’ championship,” explained Ocon on the importance of each point for the constructors’ championship.

In addition, Esteban Ocon is just behind Lando Norris in the drivers’ standings. The war between the two teams is more than ever present. The Frenchman added:

“It’s an objective to catch him in the drivers’ championship. It’s clear that we’re going to be fighting all season long with the McLarens. It’s going to be a war until the end. It’s a goal we can achieve. It’s achievable,

“Lando is a guy who puts in the gas, we know him very well. This is a team that has progressed enormously. We saw that at Paul Ricard. It will be a difficult task but we are ready to take it on.”

And in order to collect the maximum number of points, Esteban Ocon can count on an Alpine team that is in full progress.

“We’re in a very good moment. Alpine is the team that has progressed the most, it has a lot of ideas, it delivers small improvements. Some teams have perhaps already spent too much. We still have a lot of nice things to come… You will still hear about Alpine until the end of the year,” added Esteban Ocon, the winning of the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2021.

  2. If McLaren does not fair well against Alpine this weekend, Zak “Mr. Personality” Brown can point his finger at Riccardo again. The man needs to blame his driver (only one) for a poor performing race car. I see both drivers are pretty close to each other on performance last race.
