McLaren Formula 1 versus Red Bull Racing… Daniel Ricciardo’s stark comparison – Having joined McLaren in 2021, Daniel Ricciardo has noticed a different atmosphere within the British team. The Australian compared the attitudes of his current team with those of Red Bull, where he drove between 2014 and 2018.
In 2021, Daniel Ricciardo signed up with McLaren to replace Carlos Sainz Jr. at Ferrari. The Australian has now moved to a fifth team in his career at the age of 32, having previously worked for HRT, Toro Rosso, Red Bull and Renault.
If his performances have been rather mixed within the British team, particularly in the first part of the season, but he has seen a different manner of Support. Daniel Ricciardo drew a comparison between Red Bull, where he drove between 2014 and 2018, and McLaren on this point.
For Ricciardo, Helmut Marko has shown “a lot of tough love” while McLaren has given him “family-like support”
“Helmut (Marko) is a guy who, throughout my junior career, gave me a lot of tough love, and I think that was really good for me because it made me progress faster.
“Here (at McLaren), the first half of the season in particular, there was a lot of support and they weren’t trying to put me down or put me down when I was already down, they were trying to get me up.
“I’m not saying I want to be coddled all the time, but I think the way they handled it and the way they handled it without overwhelming me was really good, and I feel that. There’s a lot of family-type support,” Daniel Ricciardo revealed
