Ocon talks about Mercedes return

While Toto Wolff is still managing Esteban Ocon’s career, the current Alpine driver has opened up about a return to Mercedes Formula 1 team.

In 2020, Esteban Ocon was forced to cut ties with Mercedes. Indeed, after a season spent as 3rd driver, the Frenchman chose to return to racing at Renault. The 24-year-old driver had a solid season and will now have to continue to build on this with the team now called Alpine F1.

However, for Ocon, Mercedes is never far away, especially because of its links with Toto Wolff. Should he return to the world championship-winning team in the future in place of Lewis Hamilton or Valtteri Bottas?

Esteban Ocon was asked about his future and a possible return to Mercedes. On this subject, the Alpine driver confided:

“I don’t know what the future holds for me. Of course, at the moment I am an Alpine driver and I see myself building a relationship and continuing on the basis we started with.

“My mind is here at Alpine, this is where I want to be. When I came to the team, the challenge was to bring it closer to the top, to progress year after year, and to end up fighting for big results, for opportunities, and there will be one in 2022 with the new regulations.

“I want to help the team get to that level.”
