Wolff secures Hamilton & reveals plans to TV station

While Mercedes is again is seemingly walking on the water this season providing Formula 1 miracles, Toto Wolff and Lewis Hamilton’s extended contracts are still unresolved.

However, the boss of the German F1 team has revealed that he wants to keep his job next year.

A new season and a new demonstration of Mercedes domination in Formula 1. With four races to go, the German team is already assured of being crowned constructors’ world champion having secured that accolade once again during the last GP.

On the track, Lewis Hamilton will certainly take his 7th world championship title, with his team-mate Valtteri Bottas as his sole competitor (of sorts). Bottas has already extended his lease for 2021, but this is not the case for the British driver, who has linked his future to that of his team manager Toto Wolff. There is little chance of Hamilton racing at Mercedes without Wolff in charge.

But the horizon should become clearer for Mercedes. In remarks to the Austrian TV channel ORF, shown by Eurosport, Toto Wolff lifted the veil on his role next year:

“I think I will stay for another year and that I will indeed remain as team manager. I think the next two years could be an interesting situation and as long as I enjoy it, I want to continue to do so.

“I know that I will have to train my replacement slowly and that he will be able to work alongside me next year. ”

Thus moves another chess piece forward in attempting to obtain Lewis Hamilton’s signature during an unbelievably late period in the year not to have signed yet. TJ13 knows it’s purely about the money, and with Mercedes parent owner Daimler Benz tightening the purse strings, there’s a rather predictable and boring game of cat and mouse at play here.

Certainly with Wolff guaranteeing to stay on for one more year in his current role, plus Bottas signing for a year – the perfect no. 2 – Mercedes has given all the reasons for a protracted signing to happen between them and Hamilton.
