Perez leaves Racing Point, claims he ‘saved the team’

Mexican F1 driver Sergio Perez announces that he will not continue with Racing Point after this Formula 1 season.

His announcement was given via his Instagram account today, saying that he appreciates the opportunities given to him by the previous team owner Vijay Mallya by taking on the Mexican back in 2014.

One cannot help but smirk at the comment made prior to that sentence saying how he had been a part of saving the team, achieved by forcing it into administration prior to Lawrence Stroll’s takeover. Sour grapes are obviously still present!

One would now imagine we will soon see a Sebastian Vettel announcement imminent, possibly at the Tuscan Grand Prix this weekend? Indeed why would the German not want to rub it into the Ferrari team ‘celebrating’ their 1000th Grand Prix.
