Eighth on the grid for the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc was expecting a tough Formula 1 race this Sunday, but in the end the Monegasque finished in fourth place.
Charles Leclerc made only one stop this Sunday during a strategic race where the tyres gave all the teams headaches for more than 90 minutes.
In the end, it paid off as the Ferrari driver managed his tyres perfectly and gained four positions at the end of the race.
“In terms of strategy, the team had some concerns about making a single stop, even considering the reduction of some tyres in last week’s race. ” explained Charles Leclerc.
“But sometimes, as a driver, you can perceive sensations from the car that are not even visible on the data that appears on the monitors.
“That’s why I insisted on making just one stop, I was convinced we could make it. I’m glad that in the end we chose this path and I would say that everything went well.
“Last year I knew that my weakness was tyre management so I worked hard to improve on that. Seeing the results on the track and seeing that I was able to improve gives me a lot of satisfaction.
“I’m curious to analyse all the data in order to understand where we found the right race pace.
“I’m positively impressed with our performance. In difficult times like these, we have to be able to seize every opportunity that comes our way and we certainly succeeded. ”
