Sainz sends a strong message to Charles Leclerc

While Carlos Sainz Jr will be Charles Leclerc’s team-mate at Ferrari for the 2021 Formula 1 season, the Spaniard does not come to play supporting roles at the Scuderia.

On the Ferrari side, the drivers for the 2021 Formula 1 season are already known. Indeed, while the current year has not yet begun, the Scuderia has prepared for the future. Thus, while Sebastian Vettel was at the end of his contract, the decision was finally taken not to extend it. Moreover, the German’s replacement is also known, as it will be Carlos Sainz Jr, currently with McLaren. The Spaniard will team up with Charles Leclerc, who should be the number one driver for Ferrari.

However, as far as Sainz is concerned, the Spaniard wants to be clear.

In an interview with Radio Marca, Carlos Sainz Jr was asked about the number 2 driver status that would await him at Ferrari. The current McLaren driver said: “Second driver at Ferrari? No, I haven’t signed anything that says I’m second driver.”

He continues:

“In my contract, it is written, as in all the contracts I have signed, that the team is above the driver, but nothing that says I am second.

“What I do know is that I’m going to give it all for Ferrari. I’ll give everything I have, especially to try and win. I treat all the drivers the same, we’re all rivals. If there’s a complicated situation, we’ll make a decision”.
