Breaking News: from one of TJ13’s favourite German Formula 1 news outlets and journalist, Ralf Bach – Sebastian Vettel will join McLaren Mercedes in 2021
Sources close to Bach confirm what TJ13 understands since March by McLaren team members happy to anonymously divulge information to this writer, that team McLaren have targetted Sebastian Vettel and that a deal has now been struck according to Bach.
Bach says that “The Heppenheimer [Vettel] has been negotiating with McLaren team boss Andreas Seidl for a long time about the cockpit of Carlos Sainz.
“He is currently close to signing the contract with McLaren-Mercedes. If he does so later this week, McLaren will refrain from drawing the option on Carlos Sainz.
“In return, the Spaniard would be free for Ferrari.”
Further, Bach claims that at McLaren, “Vettel would sign a one-year contract plus option for additional seasons” and what appeals to Vettel is the collaboration between a famous and historic British Championship winning team, together with an incredibly well respected German team boss Andreas Seidl, that Vettel could build a new successful team there using a Mercedes engine.
