Alonso reveals ‘discussions’ with several F1 teams 2020

Fernando Alonso had discussions with several F1 teams to come back in 2020 – Alonso confirmed this week his intention to return to Formula One for the 2021 season.

The two-time F1 world champion left the top category of motorsport at the end of the 2018 season, but the Asturian has always said he was not saying goodbye to the discipline.

Asked by the Italian press about his desire to return to Formula One next season, Fernando Alonso revealed that he was in discussion with several teams last season about a possible return in 2020, but the former McLaren driver felt that the time was not yet right.

“In 2019 I was very busy. For this year I didn’t want to commit myself after Indy, but I was thinking about 2021: thinking about whether I want to go back to F1 for a few more years or compete in the full Indycar championship or race in WEC in the Hypercar category. “Fernando Alonso explained to the Gazzetta Dello Sport.

“There were a couple of situations with a few talks involving some teams, we had contacts, but it was not the right time [for 2020].

“What I miss in Formula One is the precision work with the engineers and the optimisation around the races, but not the travelling, the consecutive races or the fact that one team dominates. ”
