Verstappen’s thoughts on joining Ferrari

Max Verstappen thinks it is unlikely that he will be able to join the Scuderia Ferrari F1 team in the future as long as Charles Leclerc is driving for the Italian team.

At the end of the 2020 season, many drivers will reach the end of their contract and a game of musical chairs could start among the three largest teams on the grid.

At Ferrari, many believe that Sebastian Vettel will not extend his contract with Maranello after 2020 and that Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen could replace the German driver alongside Charles Leclerc.

For his part, Max Verstappen thinks it is unlikely that he will ever be able to drive alongside the Monegasque, while last week Ferrari’s Executive Director Louis Camilleri completely ruled out this possibility after the Red Bull driver’s comments about Ferrari during the season.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen. I get along well with him even if we run hard, but that’s part of the game. “explains Max Verstappen to Ziggo Sport.

“He has no influence on whether I could get a seat at Ferrari, but I don’t think that will happen. You shouldn’t have two potential numbers one next to the other.”

On the other hand, the Dutch driver would see himself more at Lewis Hamilton’s side in a Mercedes, strangely thinking that having two numbers one’s side by side there seems to be less of a problem.

“You can’t know, but again, I don’t think about it too much. In the end, what matters is what the team thinks. ” says Verstappen.

“I can imagine myself at Hamiltons’ side, too, but it is the team that ultimately decides what it wants to do. Why would it be different from Leclerc? Because of the car. 60% of drivers could have become world champions with a Mercedes in recent years. ”

“Their car is so dominant that many drivers could have claimed the world championship,” concludes Verstappen.
