Felipe Massa returns to racing as he signs with the Venturi Formula E team
Felipe Massa retired from Formula One racing at the end of 2016 but came out of retirement and raced again for Williams in 2017 after Valtteri Bottas moved to Mercedes. He finally retired at the end of that season.
Winner of 11 Grand Prix is set to race again but in Formula E. According to a report by Autosport Felipe Massa will join the Venturi Formula E team from the 2018/19 season.
It is reported that he previously tested for the Jaguar Formula E team and recently he paid a visit to the electric series at its inaugural event in Rome.
Felipe Massa said “I’m very happy to be joining the Venturi Formula E team and the ABB FIA Formula E championship, which has become a magnificent competition in such a short space of time.”
“For some years now, I’ve been clear about my interest in this innovative, forward-looking discipline that’s developing exponentially,” said Massa.
“I especially like the format of race meetings, the city-centre circuits and the contact with the fans. I can’t wait to take part in testing at the end of the month.” he added further.
Venturi team boss was honoured to have Massa at his team and said “I needed him, his experience, his speed, and his openness. Formula E is extremely complex to set up and drive.”
It is interesting to note that his last couple of seasons with Williams were difficult and the team he is joining is currently seventh in the Championship standings and so his outing as Formula E driver is not going to be easy either.
