Hamilton Primed to Walk Out

Ferrari’s Thunderclap: Is Hamilton Set to Walk? Lewis Hamilton’s debut season at Ferrari has been anything but the fairytale many expected. The seven-time world champion, having made the bold decision to leave Mercedes and join the Scuderia, is still without a podium in 2025.

As the season unfolds, whispers around the paddock suggest a seismic shift within Ferrari that could have a dramatic impact on Hamilton’s future with the team. Several reports are now speculating that Christian Horner, freshly ousted from Red Bull, could be in line to replace current Ferrari Team Principal, Frédéric Vasseur. Should that happen, it may very well spell the end of Hamilton’s brief Ferrari chapter.

Hamilton’s Ferrari Gamble

For Hamilton, the move to Ferrari was supposed to be a new challenge, a fresh start after a decade-long and wildly successful partnership with Mercedes. He was reunited with Vasseur, a man who had been pivotal in Hamilton’s early career, leading him to GP2 (now F2) success in 2006.

This reunion was seen as a key factor in his decision to join the Scuderia. However, after a lackluster start to the 2025 season, with no podiums to his name, it’s become clear that Hamilton’s Ferrari dream could be more complicated than expected.

A Power Shift at Ferrari?

The drama has intensified as rumors swirl that Ferrari is eyeing Christian Horner as Vasseur’s potential replacement. The idea of Horner switching from the Red Bull camp to the Scuderia is being discussed in hushed tones, with insiders speculating on the timing and feasibility of such a major move.

If it does happen, it could spark a significant shift in the team’s dynamics, one that might not sit well with Hamilton.

According to motorsport journalist Jennie Gow, there are serious doubts about whether Hamilton would want to continue at Ferrari if Horner takes the reins. Speaking on The Sports Agents Podcast, Gow remarked, “I know Ferrari, and Ferrari is rumored to be in talks to sign Christian Horner. I think it’s a bit far-fetched. It doesn’t seem like the ideal choice for Christian Horner.” She continued, “But do I see Lewis Hamilton wanting to work with Christian? Not really.”

A Deep Bond with Vasseur

Lewis Hamilton’s connection with Frédéric Vasseur goes beyond just professional respect. The trust between the two runs deep, with Vasseur being a formative figure in Hamilton’s early days as a junior driver.

Will Buxton, also on the podcast, underscored the significance of this bond, noting, “One of the main reasons Lewis joined Ferrari was not just the allure of racing for the Scuderia, but also to work with Fred Vasseur, who had guided him to his junior titles. Lewis adores this man and trusts him completely.”

Buxton’s comments suggest that Hamilton’s loyalty to Vasseur is strong enough that a change in leadership could trigger a drastic change in Hamilton’s commitment to Ferrari. “If Fred were replaced by Christian Horner, I don’t think Lewis would stay at Ferrari for long,” Buxton added, emphasizing that a leadership shift could lead to Hamilton seeking a way out of the Scuderia.

Horner’s Potential Move: A Risk for Ferrari?

Horner’s potential move to Ferrari presents a complex web of scenarios for the team. While he has been immensely successful with Red Bull, leading them through multiple championship-winning seasons, his compatibility with Ferrari’s culture and drivers could raise questions.

For one, would Horner’s leadership style mesh with a team that has a very different DNA from Red Bull? And, crucially, would his presence at the helm jeopardize Ferrari’s relationship with Hamilton, a driver who could bring the team its first championship in over two decades?

The Ball is in Ferrari’s Court

As the 2025 season progresses, the pressure on Ferrari, Vasseur, and Hamilton will only increase. The whispers about Horner replacing Vasseur are unlikely to subside, and they could become a defining storyline in the upcoming months. For Hamilton, who has always been a figure of loyalty to those who have shaped his career, the prospect of working under Horner might not be the most appealing.

If Ferrari is serious about securing Hamilton’s future, it will need to consider how these internal power shifts will impact the British driver’s commitment to the team.

What do you think, jury? Could a change at the top at Ferrari lead to Hamilton’s departure, or will the seven-time world champion stay committed to his new challenge? Let me know your thoughts in the comments below.

MORE F1 NEWS – Ferrari ‘closed test’ spells bad news for Verstappen

Ferrari’s Sneaky Advantage? Mugello Test Day Could Spell Trouble for Verstappen – While the world of Formula 1 takes a collective breath ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, over in Tuscany, things are about to heat up — and not just because of the Italian sun. Ferrari has booked itself a film day at the Mugello circuit on Wednesday, 16 July.

Now, on paper, a film day sounds innocent enough. Each team is allowed a couple per year to shoot promotional material, run some show laps, wave to the drones, and generally look fabulous. The only catch? They are restricted to 200 kilometres of running and must use demo tyres.

But as ever in Formula 1, what’s allowed on paper is rarely what’s happening in reality. And for Max Verstappen and his not-so-bulletproof Red Bull RB21, Ferrari’s PR outing might quietly become another migraine on the horizon…. READ MORE

  1. Yes! If Ferrari are stupid enough to engage Christian Horner’s services and sacks Vasseur, Lewis would definitely leave. If Ferrari have got any sense about them, they need to let Lewis and Vasseur drag the team which has always been “set in their ways” kicking and screaming into the 21st Century! If they want to win more Championships then they need to change their ways with a lot of areas, and definitely give Lewis a new Chief Engineer… Adam is (in my opinion) an idiot and Lewis doesn’t suffer fools gladly. It’s a shame that Rob Smedley isn’t still in the paddock, I think he would be best suited to be Lewis’s engineer (other than Bono of course).

So to summarise, Ferrari need to forget about Horner! He is TOXIC and would cause a toxic environment and practises. After what he did in 2021 there is no way Lewis would work with him as ATP. Let Vasseur see through his vision. He IS the right TP to take Ferrari and Lewis to another Championship.
    Just my opinion (of course)
