However, the young driver addressed this speculation during a press conference ahead of the Mexican Grand Prix, and firmly stated his loyalty to his current team, McLaren.

Setting the record straight on Red Bull speculation

At Thursday’s press conference, Piastri responded to the swirling rumours with clarity. The 23-year-old Australian dismissed any suggestion that he was about to jump ship, stressing his satisfaction with his current set-up and his future plans with McLaren.

“I’m very happy where I am. After this year I’ve got a contract for the next two years,” said a confident Piastri.

He was quick to reiterate his commitment to McLaren, adding that he is “certainly not looking to go anywhere else”.

The rumours began when German sports website *Sport1* reported that Red Bull were eyeing Piastri as a potential teammate or successor to Max Verstappen until 2026.

Red Bull’s interest reportedly stems from Piastri’s consistent performance on the track and the potential he’s shown as one of the grid’s up-and-coming talents.

Dr Helmut Marko adds fuel to the fire

Adding fuel to the rumours, Dr Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s influential motorsport advisor, made some intriguing comments, hinting at Red Bull’s openness to new talent.Marko’s comments suggested that Red Bull may have future ambitions for Piastri, possibly driven by Red Bull Team Principal Christian Horner’s close relationship with Piastri’s manager, Mark Webber.

“Let’s put it this way: Mark Webber is looking for an intensive dialogue,” Marko told *Sport1*.

Although vague, the statement has sparked curiosity in the F1 paddock and fuelled speculation that Red Bull may indeed be eyeing up the young Australian driver.

Stellar season strengthens Piastri’s standing

Piastri’s current form has placed him firmly at the top of the Drivers’ Championship with an impressive 247 points. Although still behind Red Bull star Max Verstappen, who leads the way with 354 points, Piastri is proving to be one of McLaren’s key assets.

He has consistently outperformed expectations and trails only Verstappen, McLaren teammate Lando Norris (297 points) and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc (275 points) in the championship standings.

In addition, Piastri’s efforts have positioned McLaren as a leading contender in the Constructors’ Championship, a testament to his contribution to the team’s recent success.

The McLaren-Piastri partnership

Piastri’s journey with McLaren began in 2023 when he signed as a regular driver for the Woking-based British outfit. The partnership has proved fruitful for both parties, with Piastri’s talent and consistency helping McLaren to return to the upper echelons of the Constructors’ Championship.

While it’s no secret that other teams are likely to be eyeing Piastri’s rising star, the Australian’s loyalty and determination to build a legacy at McLaren appears unwavering – for now.

As speculation continues, the possibility of Piastri joining Red Bull remains just that – speculation. His commitment to McLaren, reinforced by his contract, and his strong personal ties to the team make a move to Red Bull seem unlikely.

However, in the fluid world of Formula One, where team strategies and allegiances shift with the seasons, such rumours keep fans and insiders guessing as to what the future holds for the sport’s newest star.
