Perez breaks silence on ‘Verstappen exit’ clause

Perez’s breaks silence on ‘the clause’

Amidst the swirling rumours and uncertainty, Verstappen’s team-mate Sergio Perez has stepped forward to answer questions about his own contract and future with the team. Contrary to the rumours surrounding Verstappen, Perez confirmed: “I don’t have that clause…” His clarification brings a degree of stability and reassurance to his stay at Red Bull, at least from a contractual perspective, as he focuses on competing at the highest level beyond 2025.

“I don’t know what clause Max has in his contract. You have to ask him. Max has a contract with the team and is fully committed. I can’t comment on the rest, it’s none of my business.”

In his statement, Perez emphasised his commitment to the team and his decision not to dwell on the specifics of his teammate’s contract.

“I concentrate fully on my decisions and my job,” explains Perez. “I don’t see the point in talking about other drivers if we don’t know the facts and that’s the case here.”

However, Perez remains optimistic about the team’s resilience and the existing synergy between its members. “The team is in a good position because we are currently getting the results and have good harmony in the racing team. Achieving that will probably take many years.” reassures the Mexican,

“The dynamics in the team are good, we work very well together,”

Verstappen’s performance in 2023 was nothing short of spectacular, with 23 victories, including sprint races, and a world championship title. Perez, for his part, secured three race wins and finished second in the championship. This dominance was only briefly challenged when Carlos Sainz and Oscar Piastri took wins in Singapore and Qatar respectively.

“You can see on the track how efficient we were last year,” says Perez. “I see no reason to change that.”

That said the Red Bull driver does admit that “if Max were to leave, it would be a hard blow for the team.”.
