Verstappen confirms special clause – Max Verstappen, the reigning three-time Formula One World Champion, embodies a blend of high-speed mastery on the track and a cautious approach to life off it. Known for his daring drives and record-breaking performances, Verstappen’s off-track life reflects a different, more calculated side of the champion. Indeed it seems that this calculated side is mandated by the Red Bull contract Verstappen obides to.
Verstappen’s Formula 1 prowess is undeniable. With a contract that runs until the end of 2028, he has the distinction of having the longest commitment to the sport with Red Bull Racing. His performance last season was nothing short of spectacular, with nineteen wins from twenty-two races.
This remarkable achievement demonstrates not only his skill, but also the sheer dominance of his team.

The 2023 season: A mix of challenges and triumphs
The 2023 season saw an interesting start for the Red Bull team, with Verstappen and his team-mate Sergio Pérez sharing wins in the first races. While Pérez secured victories on the street circuits of Jeddah and Baku, Verstappen went on to win almost every Grand Prix that followed, with the exception of Singapore.
This took his tally for the year to an impressive nineteen victories.

Boredom behind the wheel?
Despite his overwhelming success, Verstappen dismisses any notion of racing being boring. Speaking to Auto Motor und Sport, he said: “I don’t get bored. Even when you are far ahead, things always happen that you don’t notice from the outside.”
“You are always fine-tuning and discovering new things,”
“You’re constantly communicating with the team, so it’s never boring, even if you’re way ahead. Maybe it gets a bit boring when you’re in sixth place and you have a big gap in front of you. and behind you, but not if you are on podium places.” says Verstappen
His constant communication with the team, especially with engineer Gianpiero Lambiase, keeps him engaged and focused, regardless of his position in the race.
“That is our natural relationship. We don’t do it on purpose, it is just how we are. That is our way of communicating with each other…”

Red Bull Clause: The price of fame and fortune
Verstappen’s success comes with significant financial rewards, making him the highest paid driver in Formula One. With an annual salary rumoured to be in the region of €45 million, plus potential bonuses, he is at the pinnacle of motorsport earnings. However, this success comes with certain restrictions.
In an interview with formule1.nl, Verstappen revealed a clause in his contract that prevents him from taking part in dangerous sports. He hasn’t skied for more than five years because of the risk of injury, and is well aware of the potential impact such incidents could have on his racing career.
“I have a clause that prohibits me from engaging in dangerous sports,” Verstappen revealed.
“I haven’t skied for over five years now because the risk of breaking or twisting something is simply too great, with all the consequences that such an incident would entail,” said the 26-year-old
Verstappen is aware of his natural tendency to avoid unnecessary risks, a mindset that extends beyond his F1 career. He takes precautions even in seemingly safe activities such as cycling, always wearing a helmet. Looking to the future, he doesn’t see himself taking part in extreme sports after retirement, unlike his father, Jos Verstappen, who took up rallying after retiring from F1.
“Cycling, for example, is not without danger. If I go cycling, I at least put on a helmet,” Verstappen said,
“I don’t see myself driving through tree landscapes at 180 kilometers per hour,” he said, referring to his father Jos Verstappen.

The double life of a champion
Max Verstappen’s life is a study in contrasts. On the track, he is a formidable competitor, pushing the limits of speed and skill. Off the track, he has a cautious, calculated approach to life, fully aware of the responsibilities and risks that come with his status as world champion.
His ability to balance these two aspects – the fearless racer and the prudent individual – is what makes him one of the most fascinating figures in modern motorsport. As he continues to chase victories and set records, Verstappen’s approach to life and racing remains a testament to his maturity and understanding of the bigger picture in the world of Formula One.
