Hamilton to Ferrari? Schumacher speaks out

Hamilton to Ferrari? Schumacher speaks frankly about the prospect. As is well known, Lewis Hamilton’s contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season, but what happens after that is still completely unclear. Recently, there have been speculations linking the seven-time Formula 1 World Champion with a move to Ferrari. Former driver Ralf Schumacher has a clear opinion on the matter.

“I think it’s just a rumour for a number of reasons,” the younger brother of Formula One legend Michael Schumacher stressed in an interview with Sky Sports Germany on Tuesday.

Team Ferrari a big question mark

Hamilton is “very happy where he is and has a score to settle,” explained the 47-year-old, who currently sees the Englishman in a “very good team”. Ferrari, on the other hand, is a “big question mark“.

Schumacher also revealed that Hamilton had recently revealed at an event in Stuttgart that he wanted to end his career at Mercedes. After that, he wants to act as brand ambassador for the Silver Arrows.

Schumacher: Driver swap “very, very unlikely”

Previously, the British tabloid “Daily Mail” had claimed that Ferrari was planning to offer Hamilton a mega-contract worth around 46 million euros. The idea is being promoted in the Scuderia’s top committees.

The reasoning is said to be the desire for Hamilton to win his eighth world championship title there and thus break Michael Schumacher’s record. The German had once won five of his seven titles with the Italians.

The preferred option is to establish the British driver as the second top driver alongside Charles Leclerc. However, it is also conceivable that the Monegasque could be “sacrificed”.

In this scenario, Carlos Sainz would probably keep his cockpit. Leclerc, meanwhile, would probably take the opposite step and take over Hamilton’s Mercedes.

Ralf Schumacher, however, does not believe in such a scenario. “If you look at the error rate of Leclerc and Hamilton lately, there are no two opinions. Lewis is the more consistent driver,” the ex-driver clarified. He therefore considers a swap “very, very unlikely”.
