Alonso’s camp spills the beans, his retirement

Fernando Alonso has been the main attraction at the start of the Formula 1 season thanks to an Aston Martin that has been completely changed since last season, but time is running out for the two-time world champion who is dreaming of a third title. According to his partner Andrea Schlager, this will be the Spaniard’s last contract and he could retire at the end of next season.

Last season, when Fernando Alonso decided to leave Alpine to join Aston Martin, few analysts were able to understand his logic. After all, it must be said that the Spaniard left the fourth strongest car on the grid for the seventh.

The Aston Martin car, then driven by Sebastian Vettel, was in its death throes, but Lawrence Stroll obviously had strong incentives to convince the double world champion to join his team. And the Aston Martin boss was not lying, as the AMR23 is the big surprise of this early season. Behind the untouchable Red Bulls, it is the best performing car and Fernando Alonso did not hesitate to take two podiums in a row in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

“….this will most likely be his last”

But at the age of 41, Fernando Alonso has no time to lose if he wants to win a third world title. Especially since his girlfriend, Andrea Schlager, has revealed the duration of the Spanish driver’s contract, which was signed for a “multi-year” lease.

But above all, she assures that this will be Alonso’s last contract.

“Fernando now has a two-year contract and it will most likely be his last,” said a journalist for Servus TV. Therefore, the man from Oviedo in Spain could retire at the end of the 2024 season. But that doesn’t hinder him from enjoying the moment at the wheel of a high-performance single-seater.

Alonso savours the moment at Aston Martin

“The car is just the base, the beginning of this project, practically,

“When I talk to the designers, they tell me that very important things are going to happen, developments in the next races and in the next Grand Prix and it fills you with excitement to see the hunger that the whole team has. We will see.

“The strong point at the moment seems to be the long races. So coming out of the top five, hopefully we can be there in the fight for the good points, and if something happens in front of us, very close to the podium. So, seeing is believing”, Fernando Alonso recently confided.
