Lewis Hamilton has confirmed he will split from his personal trainer and physiotherapist Angela Cullen, who has been by his side for the past seven years.
The New Zealand born, Switzerland-based trainer was employed by Hintsa Performance, whose representatives work with many drivers on the F1 grid.
Hamilton announces split with physio
“For the last seven years [Angela Cullen] has been by my side, pushing me to be the best version of myself,” Hamilton revealed on social media. “I am a stronger athlete and a better person because of her.
“So today I hope you’ll join me in wishing her the very best as she takes her next steps to pursue her dreams. Thank you for everything Ang, I can’t wait to see what the future has in store for you.”
Cullen began the season two weeks ago in Bahrain with Hamilton and was seen in the paddock throughout the weekend. Since she is not with Lewis in Jeddah it would appear whatever the reason for the parting of the ways has come to a head in the past few days.
Not a long term plan
Hamilton has not announced a new physio/trainer which will add to the speculation that the separation was sudden and could be related to Lewis’ long term plans.
Cullen was key to Hamilton’s recovery last season from a number of punishing race weekends including in Baku which Lewis described as his “most painful race ever” following the extreme bouncing of his W13 in Azerbaijan.
