Mercedes-AMG will soon be offering a special edition of its SL in the colours of its Formula 1 team. A small convertible car in which you can feel like Lewis Hamilton or George Russell, kinda…
To mark the end of the 2022 Formula 1 season, Mercedes has introduced a special model of its SL that mirrors the look of the W13 that Lewis Hamilton and George Russell drove in the world’s top category last year.
The Mercedes SL 63 4MATIC+ “Motorsports Collectors Edition” is dressed in a striking colour scheme ranging from high-tech silver metallic to obsidian black metallic, just like the W13 used by the German manufacturer’s Formula 1 team in the 2022 season. The same applies to the star patterns on the sides of the car and the colour contrasts of Mercedes sponsor Petronas: these are found on the front apron, the side skirts and the rear diffuser.
In addition, there are 21-inch AMG twin-spoke forged wheels in matt black with Petronas-coloured rim flanges, while the electric soft top is in black.
The AMG Night package and AMG Night II package enhance the visual appearance of the Motorsport Collectors Edition. With the AMG Night package, certain exterior features are finished in high-gloss black: the front splitter, rocker panels, mirror caps and the decorative trim of the rear diffuser. This is complemented by darkened tailpipes.
The AMG Night II package adds further black chrome finishes, including the radiator grille, lettering and Mercedes star at the rear. In addition, the interior components of the headlamps and tail lamps are darkened. The brake calipers of the AMG high-performance composite braking system are also painted black. The AMG fuel filler cap in silver chrome with “AMG” lettering also underlines the special status of the edition.
The standard AMG performance seats are available with two upholstery options: in black Nappa leather/microfibre with red stitching and embossed AMG emblem on the headrests or in black Nappa leather/microfibre with yellow stitching and embossed AMG emblem on the headrests. The AMG carbon-fibre trim also matches the heated steering wheel with its carbon-fibre rim.
Only 100 examples of the Mercedes SL 63 “Motorsports Collectors Edition” will be produced and sold, with a twin-turbocharged 4-litre V8 engine developing some 585 horsepower under the bonnet. Mercedes has not yet announced the price or release date.
