This week Toyota are continuing on with their WEC testing program, this time in Portugals Portimao circuit, having performed a shakedown in Spain earlier in the month.
Alonso elected to be part of the testing regime at the southern Portuguese venue, appearing to to sport a new ‘lid’ or helmet design.
It’s unclear if this is a temporary design, a helmet specifically for his Toyota commitments or indeed a new design to be used alongside McLarens expected new papaya livery later this week.
Meanwhile ex F1 team Manor Racing and current Williams reserve driver Robert Kubica will start their WEC LMP1 testing at Spain’s Aragon circuit next week.
Manor will be shaking down their challenger to Toyota’s car with an LMP2 derived, Mecachrome-powered Ginetta G60-LT-P1, starting on Monday.
Should the test prove successful, Kubica could join Toyota’s Alonso on the WEC grid this season.

With both F1 and WEC being FIA sanctioned series, does that mean that Alonso is limited to using the same helmet design for both series? I wonder if FIA have already set up a 13 member commission to monitor and control FIA’s highly important helmet design policies…
