Son of Enzo Ferrari believes Vettel is their next Schumacher

Many F1 fans remember the days of the Michael Schumacher dominance in red back in the early 2000’s.

The remarkable tally of victories in the German driver’s record is truly staggering at 91 wins, 72 of which were for Ferrari. But could you compare Schumacher’s era with Ferrari’s current lead driver Sebastian Vettel? The son of Enzo Ferrari appears to think so.

Despite Ferrari being somewhat walloped for six at their home Grand Prix in Monza, it is expected that the high downforce Ferrari will be back on winning form at the twisty Singapore track next up. In fact the consensus is that the Scuderia is again in with a realistic World Championship shout for the title race for the first time since 2012. Sebastian Vettel, Maurizio Arrivabene and the engineers at Marenello seem to have finally formed the team into a winning power in Formula One but Piero Ferrari, son of Enzo Ferrari, even believes in much more.

“I fully rely on his skills and believe that we can still celebrate great success together,” said the 72-year-old during an interview with the German publication Sportbild.

“he will start a new era with us as we had with Michael Schumacher up until ten years ago.”

The Schumacher era finally ended with Ferrari officially in 2006, but the following year Kimi Raikkonen was able to win a world title for the team still led by Jean Todt and the remnants of the dominant red team.

The Italian believes that “If we are able to give him [Vettel] another competitive car , he will be able to bring the title back to Ferrari.”
