In a new feature for 2014, TheJudge13 will look into Formula One odds from bookmakers analysing what the odds would suggest. We would invite readers to get involved and tell us if you think they are a fair reflection of what is set to be an amazing season.
Last time out
Lewis breezing home to victory was the story that dominated the headlines as Nico was left 18+ seconds behind. Understandably, the British press were tripping over themselves in superlatives for the man from Stevenage with the title in their eyes already decided. The bookmakers would seem to be in agreement, with Hamilton priced at a staggering 1/3.
A race track where the quick corners are supposed to favour the Red Bull could mean a better weekend for Sebastian Vettel. If the expected European season updates can help bring the car back to the preference of the German, the competition between himself and Daniel Ricciardo could be an interesting spectacle.
Hot to trot
Fernando Alonso podium finish – 7/4 – The Spaniard won last year in front of the Catalonian crowd. He is not fancied to do even make the podium this year, so this price seems very reasonable.
Nico Hulkenberg top 6 finish – 10/11 – The German has once again impressed with his consistent performances this year as the Force India has gone from strength to strength. Can Nico score a top 6 once again?
A punt on a grunt
A look at a more speculative market – Romain Grosjean points finish – 6/4 – With the Lotus looking more competitive every race weekend and the 3 race break since the fly-aways, could this be the first point scoring weekend of the year for the Frenchman?
A look at a more speculative market – Both Ferrari drivers points finish – 8/15 – a seemingly unthinkable market to be viable before the season, but the form of Raikkonen has been patchy at best (even if laced with misfortune as well). Will the European season bring better fortunes for the Finn?
At last, after 3 weeks, Formula One is back on our screens – enjoy!
