The #F1 Bar Exam: 26 December 2013

Last Updated on December 26 2013, 9:58 pm

Welcome to the last TheJudge13 #F1 Bar Exam of 2013! I sincerely hope everyone have enjoyed it so far and will continue to do so as we continue to build the TJ13 community into 2014 and beyond!

Last Week’s Question(s): Who was the the driver with the iconic red 5? What was his unique achievement in 1993? This previous question is deliberately ambiguous. He actually had two unique achievements that year, so extra credit if you get both right. Third question: Who was his – in F1 circles well known – team mate? Have fun.

The answer(s) I was looking for were: The picture shows Nigel Mansell in his #5 Newman-Haas Lola-Ford of 1993. He had two unique achievements that year; firstly he was the first ever rookie who won both pole and the race at his very first race in Indycars (1993 Surfers Paradise) and in the week before the 1993 Porguguese GP he held both the Indycar title and Formula One title simultaneously until Alain Prost sealed the 1993 title at Estoril.

His “well known” teammate in 1993 was none other than 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti.

Well done to (big breath) Dave, The13thDuke, Oliver, Neil, Joe, Kirk, Vik, Taflach, Sharl, Petrocar, Richard, James, Steven, Jim, Dave, Tim, Flying Scotsman (not Obree), Sid and Peter!

Neil gave this interesting fact: Frank Williams allowed Mansell to take his gear stick knob with him and he used it in Indycar. So it could be said that knob is somewhat unique, as it has not only been used in a F1 and Indycar but its also won both series!

This week’s question(s): Can you name the two drivers, the team and constructor in the photo. Can you also name model of the cars in the photo and how many points was scored by the car in the first year it was raced?
