Whilst it was raining Race Control declared the session to be dry only to change their minds and after several laps changed their mind and stated the session was wet. Chaos in FP1/2

Williams bold statements

Williams boss James Vowles said it should be an “easy decision” for Carlos Sainz to join the team as he made a public pitch for the outgoing Ferrari driver. Sainz has now won three grand prix while his Ferrari favoured son team mate made it five wins for him with the victory last time out I Monaco.

Sainz is the top F1 driver without a contract for 2025 and he has been repeatedly approached by the new Audi F1 project. Yet despite his father’s association with the German brand, Carlos has realised their project may be several years I the making and being own the prime of his life, a rebuild F1 project is clearly not lighting his bonfires.

Sainz options narrow

With Max Verstappen threatening to leave his Red Bull family, Carlos Sainz has been hanging on to see if there’s a place for him I the world champion team. However, the new contract Red Bull have now confirmed with Verstappen team mate, will see Checo remain with the team until the end of 2026.

This of course pleases Max who sees the Mexican driver as a clear number two. Perez was the first in the team to publicly support Horner during the early season ‘goings on’ and given Max threats to to leave the team, this contract renewal is clearly a reward for Chico’s loyalty.

The team struggled badly throughout practice at Imola, before Max Verstappen dragged the RB20 to pole and the win, but trouble riding the kerbs and bumps in Monaco meant the world champion was firmly out of the fight as McLaren and Ferrari battled for the win.
