Haas signs young British talent

Formula One team Haas have officially secured a replacement for Nico Hulkenberg, who is set to join Sauber/Audi. According to reliable sources, the deal has been finalised and is expected to be formally announced around the time of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

In a significant move that marks a generational change, Haas have chosen 19-year-old British driver Oliver Bearman to take over the cockpit from 36-year-old Nico Hulkenberg from next season.

This was reported by RacingNews365 on Tuesday, citing sources close to the team who confirmed the agreement, TJ13 can also confirm that this deal is offical. Bearman’s official presentation is expected to take place just before the Silverstone Grand Prix, a fitting venue for the young Briton’s introduction to the pinnacle of motorsport.

A special debut at Silverstone

Silverstone holds a special place in Bearman’s heart, making his debut there doubly special. Not only is it his home race, but the young rider will have the chance to showcase his talent in front of a home crowd.

He’ll be taking part in the first free practice session, taking the Haas cockpit for a spin around the iconic circuit and giving a taste of what’s to come next season.

Why Bearman got the nod

The choice of Bearman, while momentous, is not entirely unexpected. Speculation about his possible selection has been rife for months. Two main factors have influenced Haas’ decision.

Bearman’s association with Ferrari, where he is currently a junior driver, played a crucial role in the decision. The partnership between Ferrari and Haas is well known, having previously paved the way for drivers such as Mick Schumacher to secure a regular seat in F1.

Bearman’s existing relationship with Ferrari will ensure a seamless transition into the Haas team, benefiting from shared technical insight and support.

Bearman has also proved his mettle on track, cementing his reputation as a rising star. His outstanding performance this season, particularly in Saudi Arabia, underlines his potential. Filling in for an unwell Carlos Sainz, Bearman impressed in qualifying with a strong eleventh place finish.

He further cemented his credentials by maintaining his composure throughout the race, navigating the challenging circuit to finish in seventh place.

This remarkable debut was a major factor in his promotion and demonstrated his readiness for the demands of Formula One.

Bearman’s stunning performance in Saudi Arabia

Oliver Bearman made an impressive Formula One debut by finishing seventh for Ferrari in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix. The 18-year-old British driver was called up as a late replacement when Carlos Sainz underwent surgery for appendicitis.

With Red Bull dominating on track and making unwanted headlines off it, British teenager Oliver Bearman gave Formula One a much-needed feel-good story when he stole the show at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix.

Bearman’s sudden ascent to the sport’s most coveted seat at the age of 18 came as a result of Sainz’s surgery. Just hours before the final practice session, Bearman was informed that he would be given the opportunity to become the third-youngest driver to compete in an F1 race.

The Ferrari Driver Academy product put in a solid performance in qualifying, narrowly missing out on a place in Q3 to Lewis Hamilton and securing 11th place on the grid. In Jeddah, the Essex-born driver decisively outperformed Hamilton, mastering one of the most challenging circuits on the F1 calendar to finish seventh at the end of a demanding 50-lap contest.

Although the Ferrari was a powerful car, Bearman showed remarkable maturity and composure to hold off Britain’s biggest stars, Lando Norris and Hamilton, in the closing stages.

  1. Haas being a Ferrari PU customer is a less relevant factor, though, as otherwise, they would’ve always run at least one Ferrari-associated driver, kept Mick in any case, or replaced him or Mazepin with Gio, etc.
