Pierre Gasly secured second place after Hamilton knocked Red Bull’s Alex Albon out of the race, allowing Gasly through from fourth place to second, the Frenchman valiantly held off Hamilton to claim his first ever podium and the best result for Toro Rosso since Sebastian’s win for the team at Monza 2008.
Carlos Sainz gave McLaren their first podium since Mercedes power in 2013, after Hamilton received a time penalty for his clash with Albon, therefore giving the Spaniard third place. During the time of broadcast, Sainz was pleased enough to get to fourth from his start position of twentieth.
Poor old Lando Norris was despondent admitting “…Yeah but, I don’t [help Carlos] out of choice, I do it because I’m fucking slow”
….but was decent enough to join in the podium celebration after the stewards’ decision was announced.
