why lead off the comments with such negativity, slagging off another driver? the obsessive maldonado-bashing isn’t entertaining, and i’m not even a fan of the guy. we could go to PF1 or F1FanaticUK to read that kinda stuff. I mean, you’re entitled to express your opinion, I’m just expressing a desire to spend time discussing what was done right by the driver(s) of the wkend, like Bottas…
sorry…not trying to suppress your speech or anything…just bummed that it’s immediately negative negative negative on a post that’s supposed to celebrate what someone did well….
I normally dont do that kind of negativity but for a professional to say his team is sabotaging him, that’s even worse in my opinion. He’s been going on and on about how bad williams is. Did you see perez? Now that is a professional and adult way to handle it.
Perhaps this meaning is not as apt in American English, I don’t know (where I’ve heard loser a lot as mainly an insult), but it can also be read as the worst performing or losing driver, contrasted to the ‘winner’ of the weekend. But Chilton already has 5%! I’ve forgotten the reasons that he gets votes, it was explained here before to me half a season ago.
But, I think Maldonado was actually the furthest behind his team mate in qualifying this weekend (1.5 seconds), and didn’t really close up during the race either (front wing change pit-stop compromising strategy). Perhaps this coanda-less car balance favours Bottas, or perhaps he can now set it up so his style can flourish. Maldonado is a Hamilton type aggressive driver, while Bottas is a Kimi type short corner and weight transfer expert. Interesting that their personalities also sometimes match up too…
But questions must be asked at Williams, how their car was ‘hampered’ all year with the coanda exhaust (which seemingly mustn’t have worked well – I reckon with their innovative low gearbox blocking some air path for the diffuser etc.), and also how Maldonado’s aggressive style didn’t get the tyre temp here where Bottas’ more smooth style did – other smooth drivers were slightly struggling, but that was car/setup dependent too, in some cases the aggressive drivers struggled as well if not more-so. Perhaps it was all down to car balance, to bring tyres in at the same time.
