Ferrari delivers a blistering response to Charles Leclerc

The last few races have not gone well for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc. The Monegasque has seen Max Verstappen take the lead in the F1 drivers’ standings after being forced to retire several times and having suffered from his team’s strategic errors. Charles Leclerc made a rather gloomy assessment a few days ago. But Mattia Binotto, the Ferrari boss, does not share the same opinion at all with a polar opposite opinion.

“We absolutely want to do everything to improve in every single thing we do, and obviously looking at the first part of this season, there have been some strategy issues, there have been some reliability issues and there have been some driving mistakes,” admits Leclerc,

“On reliability and strategy we are working extremely hard to improve. And after a mistake we always follow exactly the same process, which is to try to analyse where the mistakes came from, why we made the wrong decision at a certain point in the race, in order to move forward,

“As soon as we understand a mistake, then we can move on,” said Charles Leclerc in a statement.

But Mattia Binotto does not really share this opinion.

“First of all, I think there is always room for improvement, you can’t be perfect and you never will be,” concedes the team boss,

“I have no doubt that we need to improve, we need to improve on aerodynamics, chassis, powertrain, strategy and all the aspects that can be improved. Having said that, I think we have a very good team dealing with strategy and I don’t think that is one of our weak points,

“Races like Monaco, Silverstone or Paul Ricard were considered problematic in this area, but I don’t see the group as a problem, because I think we also made good decisions this year,” the Ferrari boss first explained in an interview with Motorsport.com.

“I am not convinced that what we decided was a mistake. I think we took what were the right decisions at the time they were taken, and sometimes they turned out to be unfortunate but not bad,” continued Mattia Binotto. Clearly, the Scuderia’s director of sports management does not really agree with Charles Leclerc’s assessment.

  1. He should analyse Red Bull’s strategic calls for a clearer understanding of what’s required.

      • It isn’t only strategy matter. The improvements & the updates of each team. The Reb Bull is empty of improvements & the updates for the RB18. The Ferrari F1-75 is full of improvements & the updates for the others Grad Prix.

        • Very often their no need to fight any more. Let’s go for the next season. Until next season Red Bull in pilots and contractions for 2022/23

  2. “Ferrari delivers a blistering response” not sure I agree with that statement! “The Scuderia’s director of sports management does not really agree with Charles Leclerc’s assessment”. Mattia may not but the Tifosi says otherwise. Mattia you need to stop your public media line of BS and start holding personnel and yourself accountable for the strategy errors. Just another management structured comment to reduce the impact of Charles and the Tifosi’s anger. Enjoy your last season with the team!

    • ✔️
Fortunately for the second half of the F1 Championship the Ferrari could improve seriously the F1-75 and on the other hand the Red Bull Racing with RB18 has ended there improve for the other 9 Grand Prix. So Ferrari will take quite easily the drivers and construction championships.

      • I think Mattia should look at the stupid decision he made in the last race how can you put hard tyres on when all other teams were complaining that they didn’t work for the race, my opinion is he should go

      • I would not describe the effort required to overcome 80 and 100 point deficits as “easily” anything. Max has taken a slower car and accomplished amazing results through an overall team effort. The team effort being something Ferrari has proven to be lacking this season. 9 races to go, Max needs no more improvement on his car, he has the team that has been unstoppable this year.

  3. Ferrari have their heads so far up the other end, they’ve forgotten how to work with the driver team , who after all could be the ones at the top. They might realise the problems of the car and then concentrate on getting their works team together to enable them to understand wants needed on race day. It seems standard practice to ruin great drivers ability , whilst with them Ferrari

    • Binotto should work smart and hard, not only….But you can only do that if you have capacity to find a solution.
This is a poor reflection on the entire Ferrari management structure.

  4. Ridiculous Ferrari comment. How come Red Bull always get their strategy right and Ferrari keeps making errors.

  5. Binotto says his strategy team and their strategies are not the problem!? Well now you know why you are going to lose the championship, you too useless to see the problems that are pretty much slapping you right in the face. Denial is not a river in Africa.

  7. That wasn’t reply to Leclerc’s comments! That was reply to a Change in Ferrari! Check your goddamn FACTS!

  8. Binotto is an idiot. This is just a blatant lie to save face, but it doesn’t work when we all saw the truth. This reminds me of Soviet Russia claiming Chernobyl was just a small fire. We all knew it then and we keep seeing it now: Ferrari’s strategy team is a full meltdown.

  9. Everything rises and falls on leadership. Till management takes responsibility for their errors there can not be a break through in moving forward.

    • Agree 100%. How many times do you see Toto acknowledge their issues. If he doesn’t want to, he says they need to look at the data.

But if Ferrari look at their data and it supports their decisions, then what does that say about their data?
